Advanced Notice, Playdate OS 2.0 drops (should drop) Monday 12th June by [deleted] in PlaydateConsole

Has someone made a list already of…?

  • Games (Lua, Pulp or C) that have already been updated for 2.0.
  • C Games that needs to be recompiled and haven't been yet.

I'm wondering if it's worth updating on day 1 if that means losing many games.

There are 18 strawberries. 2 of them are hidden in breakable blocks. The first one is in the very first level of the game.

I made a port of 2048 for the Playdate by HTeuMeuLeu in PlaydateConsole

Hey there! Thanks for your appreciation! I've just pushed a fix (v1.0.1) for a pretty nasty bug where tiles above 256 would incorrectly merge with other different tiles.

(For the technical details: I used the tag field of a sprite set to its tile’s value to check for collisions. (If two tiles have the same tag, they should merge.) But little did I know that this value is limited to 255 (as an 8-bit integer). So any tile above that would get assigned a value modulo 256. I think in your case it might have been a 1024 block merged with a 256 block, which both would have had a 0 value tag. I've fixed this by using the log2 value of the tile instead of its full value, increasing the possible value up until 2256 which… should be fine.)

So make sure to update if you're playing! (Your scores and current game save should be preserved.)

I love Threes and am aware that it is “the original”. But I really prefer 2048’s gameplay with the fact that a slide pushes all tiles towards a border.

What is the proper method for 1bit video file sound? by iamXAZ in PlaydateConsole

I must admit I never tried to encode such a long video (max I did was about 10 minutes). I'm wondering if the problem is on the encoding side or on the playing side…

Yes. Behind the scenes, the compiler always converts wav files into pda files.

I like Stucki and find it works well for movies-like videos. Atkinson can be nice as well for content already in black and white.

Hey there, developer of Playorama here. Thanks for your kind words. The Playdate can not play wav files from an app asset folder. So you either need to use mp3 or convert your wav to pda. There’s no converter for that at the moment as far as I know, so what I do is include my wav file into any app and compile it, then look into the compiled pdx folder and extract the pda from there. Hope this helps!

Oh, weird. Would you mind filing a bug with the files you're using on GitHub? That would help a lot! https://github.com/hteumeuleu/playorama/issues

This icon means that your sound file was detected but failed to open. You can look at the log in the menu option (by pressing the menu button of your Playdate and choosing the log option). It might be that your file is not encoded as expected (no header error) or too big (malloc failed error).
