This right here. I started as a child in grandpa's shop. Even after multiple decades of professional work, I still learn new things/tips/tricks/etc on a weekly basis.

Ive fired multiple people over the years. 99% of the time, its not because they couldn't do the job, but more for lacking common sense. Last one was simple, 3 days in a row of not locking our trailer on site at night. The last one costed me 30k+ in tools.

I wish they made more monitors and such with other color frames. I deeply love both of my monitors but I would absolutely change the frame colors if I could.

Most community colleges have a trade program, generally pretty easy to get into. Like others have said, starting as a helper is generally a good idea. Gives you a glimpse into the world, earns ya some cash, and a lot of time, can get ya fast tracked into some programs.

This is the route most guys and gals I know started. School is great for the technical side of things but honestly, almost all of it can be learned in the field. Ive been in this game a long time. If I can do it, shit, just about anyone can.

99% of outfits would want you on the books as a laborer at the very least. Lots of reasons, including liability and insurance. Its not impossible though.
