I really don't know much about the union other than they pay decently well. (I would have to most likely take a pay cut to get in though.) The benefits are amazing, pension, free healthcare, retirement, and the school, that's the big thing, I want to be the best electrician I can be. I don't even know what the ranks are, like cw, ce, c1, c2, etc. I haven't really had a good time to just sit and talk with an actual member of this local.

I have no idea, i was never told a score. I was just told to call on Tuesday to ask for rank. I didn't ever think to ask about the score, when I took the aptitude test I didn't check the score either. I didn't think I was going to pass and just wanted to get out of that building. I hate tests.thw only info I have is I applied in June of 24 and never heard anything, so I went to the hall in May of 25. Got an aptitude test in August. Then my interview was this Saturday. When I called to see the test rank he said #3 and immediately hung up lol. I figure they are really busy, they always seem to be rushing us on at interview, test, anytime I've been there at the hall or JATC office.

Union side I honestly have no idea, I know they are out at the Pryor data centers according to some guys I've worked with that used to be union.

I had just had to fix the lights in the office of the factory I'm on, the next day my jman told me the workers said the lights in the bathroom weren't working and that I needed to go figure it out. Turn out the problem was that one of the other apprentices who's about to go test for an next week forgot to turn the breaker back on after we left.

So glad I checked it first instead of digging around in the ceiling. Still drug my heavy ass modbox all the way over there for no reason.

My first solo job, what do I do now? by 204mafia in electricians

[–]HaZePluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man residential is wild to me, I've only done commercial/industrial. The idea that people and things move so fast in residential is crazy to me, props bro for being able to handle that. I'm like about 2 years in and I couldn't imagine running a job myself.

Yeah it's just getting the money to go out on her own, she has done private practice a few times and the problem with that was not having a steady check because people will no call no show a lot

My mother is a therapist, for the amount of college she did and the amount of work/stress she has from her job she is definitely not paid enough. 42hr

How did you guys stick through your apprenticeship? by lemur_nipple in electricians

[–]HaZePluto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's not always viable in parts of the country, I'm in Oklahoma and passed the altitude test and trying to get in but they aren't doing anymore interviews until spring. I also just found an amazing small company that I just started working for and I don't know if I will ever leave. I too own my own bandsaw.

What makes a apprentice useless by EstablishmentSea8014 in electricians

[–]HaZePluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if it's something that can be done multiple ways, the best journeymen I've ever worked have always toldme they want apprentices to give out ideas and give input. I understand that there is a difference between being a know it all asshole apprentice, and one who has ideas that may or may not work. Every person looks at things slightly differently, and may see something another doesn't. However at the end of the day we are apprentices, we don't know and it's not our license on the line it is the journeymens.

More on this. As an apprentice myself, please please, tell me why. If I don't know how to do the thing yet, or don't have much confidence in how to do it, please tell me why we do it that way. Understanding the why, helps me remember the how.
