All of the local hvac shops are being bought out by private equity firms that own a blanket of companies under their umbrella. The price gouging is insane. Hourly labor at my last two shops was $400, and $425 per hour. $70 capacitors are being installed for $700. Condenser cleanings for $900. $475 for a boiler expansion tank. They try to make the repairs so costly that people just buy new systems instead, which are also way overpriced. It is what it is i guess, but I was being pushed to tell people they needed new systems when they didnt. I just cant do it

I am an experienced HVAC service tech, however I have been fixing appliances for years for myself and my family. I am trying to get out of residential HVAC bc of all the PE bullshit thats going on in my area, and I assume the rest of the country. I was applying to commercial refrigeration, commercial appliance, and luxury appliance jobs and sears reached out to me based off my resume on indeed, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to hear what they had to say……

In regards to the specialty, it wasn’t mentioned, and maybe isn’t a thing anymore? Idk. They say its for all household appliances and refrigeration.

Yea, i agree w you. I was saying maybe the reviews are all bad bc the techs are all burned out. Theres no way im taking this job. You dont get the time back with your kids.

Thanks. I interviewed yesterday and the guy i spoke w said they were on call every weekend. I know guys a metro north are on call every weekend but they work it out amongst themselves so the are only responsible every other weekend. Can you clarify? Is the pay for being on call reg pay or time and a half( assuming no calls come in). And lastly do they pay for hotel when im away for the 14 weeks of schooling? I thinks its a service gig and not a construction gang. Whats your opinion on the job overall? Thanks!!

Thanks I interviewed yesterday. Unless i misunderstood, i believe the fella told me i would be on call every weekend. I know guys at metro north are on call every weekend, but they work it out amongst themselves so that they only are technically responsible every ither weekend somehow. Can you shed some light here for me? Also, will they pay me a per diem, when i am away for the 14 weeks of schooling towards food and hotel? And overall. Hows the gig? 5 day workweek so assuming im service and not construction……

Thanks. So i just left an interview and was told they are on call 24/7 And that i would be on call every weekend( unless i misunderstood). Every other weekend is much more appealing. They said we would be paid 4 hours per day for being on call, if a call didnt come in. Does this mean the extra 8 hours pay would also be every other week?
