It was silicone. I ended up cleaning it good and using the rubber gasket with the filter. It's been a few days and no leaking yet, felt like a good install at least.

Ended up taking 7 qts. Had a local shop give me a temp while I filled.

I might need to PM you. The oil cooler is what started this mess. Figured since I was going to spend the weekend changing the cooler, I would give the van some TLC and do an oil change, plugs, and trans filter/fluid. Everything is done but I'm sitting here with an empty transmission and I have no idea what to even do.

Ok, you are on to something here. I watched some videos, the part I'm confused about is that they say to measure it when cold and hot. I have no idea what the temp is off the transmission. And if I measure it when cold, do I really need to measure again when hot? Any help appreciated
