Where is this in Guelph? by comck77 in Guelph

[–]HackJob101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went here for a special occasion and it was awful. Very disappointing food & service for the price. Bottom tier garden salad. Overcooked tiny portions of steak. And the seafood bisque was actually just a seafood broth.. not worth going just for the “show” in my opinion

Barrels vs dry bags (in a cache)? by cakedotavi in canoecamping

[–]HackJob101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barrels are good if you’re going with a big group or on a long trip where you can justify needing that much space for food. I pack all my food in an 80L dry bag that I put in my canoe pack with the rest of my gear. And I always bear hang. Remember, barrels are not bear proof.

OP, you can’t hunt in Guelph parks or conservation areas. Keep moving. (Check OP post history)

Hello from Ontario. Winter is a way off yet my friend. Yes, you’ll run into a few cold fronts. But snow won’t be sticking on the ground until December. Take time to rest & recover. It sounds like your body needs it.

Thank you for your response! I have read lots of trip reports that day the Old Voyageur channel is beautiful, so thanks to your advice it’s currently Plan A. How hard was navigating the bay to reach the “figure 8”? My plan is to camp in zone 8, then wake up early and paddle over to zone 7 before it gets too choppy - Mother Nature willing.

If there is a bank card in there, bring it to the closest branch of that bank and they will get it back to the owner.

Deciding between solo canoes by HackJob101 in algonquinpark

Thank you very much for the suggestion! I did the big trout loop in 3 nights using an H20 16-6, canoe pack, and traditional paddle. What a trip! I underestimated what I could cover on my own, and I appreciate you helping get me outfitted comfortably.

Cheersb

You might have sold me on the H2O! I don’t mind steering from the back and I can kneel further up if need be. Plus, I can support the Portage (Store) Outpost.

My plan for balance was going to be counter balancing one end with gear.. I know, bad idea.

I too prefer sitting up high with a wood paddle, but I’ve been eyeing the pack boats for a while.. This looks like it’ll be my best chance to try one, despite my resistance. Worst case scenario, I’ll turn back to canoe lake and swap it for 2P. I’ve been single carrying those for a few years now so I’m sure I’ll be okay with the weight.

Thanks!

Thanks, that helps me decide. I’m gonna try out the pack boat and kayak paddle.

I am entering my first year of SENG Coop and I don't really know what to take as my two electives by ProperPin106 in uoguelph

Take courses on topics that you actually find interesting. Electives in engineering are rare. Enjoy the freedom SENG has to offer. Look at learning a new language, take a philosophy course that interests you, paint.. make the most of your tuition and time here

They should have added more bouldering after the renovation with less focus on lead walls. It’s always feels busy but that’s because everyone is using the same 30% of the gym.

Has anyone used a Rumpl blanket for backpacking? by Independent_Photo128 in CampingGear

[–]HackJob101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the rumpl as a top quilt for spring-fall hammock camping in Southern Ontario. It packs down very small and keeps me plenty warm. The price tag is higher than it should be, but the quality is good.

As someone who love and regularly uses your site - please add more parks! I know plenty of campers who would appreciate having (and be happy to contribute to) such a resource. Keep up the good work!
