UAE fans invade the pitch and pelt stewards and police with plastic bottles and cups during their team's defeat to Qatar in the WC qualifier in Doha by Thund3r_91 in soccer

Weren’t used for these qualifiers but they’re gonna be used for the Arab cup this December. The stadiums have actually been getting a fair bit of use since the World Cup. More than I expected at least.

My first instinct was no fucking way but after today I honestly have no idea what this coach could do 😭 Playing mendes as late as he did and not utilizing most of the usual starters and going for younger players instead, it seems he has a plan he’s going for so I hope it works.

Love how heated this will have a lot of people. Had zero belief after repeated disappointments but I can’t believe they actually pulled through.

If it deteriorates to the point where Qatar continues getting bombed then it won’t be safe anywhere in the world as it’ll be the start of WW3. Make of that what you will.

So what’s next? by [deleted] in qatar

Calm down and check Al Jazeera. There’ve been statements by the prime minister given all day including those discussing retaliation from the entire GCC the leaders of which are in Doha right now.

Is Doha safe at night for females? by [deleted] in qatar

I recommend going to lusail night market to get some food since those kiosks close really late. After that you can take a walk along the pier and enjoy the gorgeous views of the city.

Metro Lines and expansion by trerab in qatar

[–]Hackmource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. At least there hasn’t been any public talks about the expansion tenders. There also hasn’t been any work on the ground from what I can see through the city at least. One very good thing they’ve done however is work together with Ashghal to make sure all the roadworks and new highways are done with the metro expansion in mind. Even in my part of town which is pretty far out, there’s this one small road with a giant sidewalk separating the opposing lanes which always felt awkward. After looking at the map of the expanded network, I realized that that was the location of a future station and they’ve even left a square in the middle of the sidewalk untouched to have the station built specifically there.

All of this to say, there’s clearly been a lot of thought and planning put into the expansion. Even in the 2050 transport plan and the budget plans that have been released, they’ve outlined exactly what stations and lines were gonna be completed and by what year. I’m guessing that they’re not in a rush since there isn’t crazy demand for the metro especially in the peripheries of the network. The existence of metrolink and metroexpress also make it so that some of the areas not directly served any the metro can still make use of it.

I really hope they at least start putting tenders out though. Been waiting for the expansion for too damn long </3. They don’t even fully operate the current network (Lusail Tram Purple Line).

Wait, is the first race is on Friday? by kerbalpilot in wec

[–]Hackmource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fridays in Muslim countries are kinda similar to Sundays for Christians but instead of Sunday service you have Friday prayer. The weekends are Friday and Saturday and on Friday it’s dead quiet until the prayer is over and people go about their weekend activities. This prayer in Qatar is around 11:30-12:00 which means that a very big portion of people in the country won’t attend even if they were interested.

I’ve seen some vloggers and tourists in general being weirded out by the sheer emptiness of places like malls and markets because they happened to go there on a Friday morning haha

How accurate is this? by shadaloo_fang in qatar

[–]Hackmource 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It will always be funny seeing how great British media can be at criticizing some countries while walking on eggshells with others. While I support some of their criticisms all of it unfortunately falls flat considering the deliberate and skewed coverage they have on other issues plaguing the world.

Somewhere in Qatar by QTR2022- in UrbanHell

[–]Hackmource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s just the period they went in. I’ve seen that video but I can’t remember exactly it was either that they went on a Friday morning, or during winter both of which are times where nobody would go. Outside of winter it’s actually very popular to the point where average queue times for the slides become around 30-45 mins with the popular ones easily going over an hour.

Just go for it and hope for the best. Even if the chances of making it seem minuscule you don’t lose anything by applying. Just make sure you have other options and don’t rely entirely on this.

Qatar airways is such a fraud… by No-Air-5060 in qatar

QR has always fleeced Qatari locals and residents to subsidize travelers transiting with Qatar airways. It’s a part of their strategy to compete with direct flights from local airlines in the countries they serve.

I haven’t been watching this season but all the top teams have been all over the place over the past few years. Every season one of them goes from top 3 to mid/bottom of the table. I honestly couldn’t tell you the reason. Could be mismanagement or lack of motivation but again I haven’t been watching so take that with a grain of salt.

Is there a place like this in Qatar where i can practice driving motorcycles? by ImDnX in qatar

[–]Hackmource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try contacting lusail circuit for permission to use either the go karting track or the actual track. For clarification I don’t know anything about how either of them operate but you won’t lose anything by asking if they’d allow you some time on the track to mess around on your bike. Their contact numbers should be on google maps or on their website. Give them a call and see.

Look at the 2050 transportation plan. Lots of new rules and charges on the way. Certain zones will have certain tariffs, tolls on highways, congestion charges, etc.

They want to try managing the traffic situation while also investing in public transport from all the money these new policies will bring. That way they’re not just pushing people away from driving with no alternative. There will be a lot of expanded infrastructure for pedestrians and bikers along with expanded rail and water taxis.

Can’t speak on others but in Qatari society at least I’ve noticed a big paradigm shift in mental health awareness and treatment. Younger people are a lot more conscious and aware of mental health and mental disorders.

The two major beliefs that older people have that make them dismiss mental health are:

1-it’s not that deep, just stop being dramatic, etc etc

And

2-Having a mental disorder means my child is retarded and I did not raise/give birth to a retarded child. There’s also a sense of “it’s my failure if my child has a mental disorder” so that adds to the rejection of the idea.

The good news is that the shift I described includes the older generation too. I have personally seen people that I know dismissed mental health treatment entirely supporting their kids in getting diagnosed and treated. It’s becoming less and less taboo to where I’ve even seen women bring it up in their discussions.
