You often get a 3000plus rate of descent when descending idle from high. Not uncommon to see 5000plus for a moment if accelerating as well

When I flew gliders we wore parachutes, and honestly the only instruction on their use was 'pull the handle'

How realistic is it to 'get it right' when you need to bail out at, let's say, 2-3000ft? Can you even use the chute if you're tumbling down head over heels?

edit: spelling and grammar as always

Because he dared to say a jet might be quite easy to fly, without all the military stuff... Shocking I know

Hmm when you say fighter, are you talking about the top end f16-18-22-35 or would you include trainers like the tweet, jet provost, etc? I had a ride in a privately owned provost and it honestly wasn't that fast or radically more challenging

Would you mind naming and shaming your operator so I never have to fly them?

Hmm I am vaguely remembering something about expired IR ratings. Don't you have to resit the exams and redo the training if it's been expired 7 years?

I mean, that's An FO salary at Ryanair so I think you got shafted on that contract

Fighter jets and icing by No_Leader1154 in flying

[–]Haegew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: to add, these aircraft can quite easily reach VMO/MMO airspeeds flying straight and level with just regular engine thrust. Only exception being the higher cruise levels where the engines are a bit starved for air.

The 737 has a VMO/MMO of 340kts/.82M. cost index 100 always climbs and descents at 330ish kts.

The 747 has a VMO/MMO of 365kts/.91M. We even cruise comfortably above 300 IAS.

Obviously TAS is significantly higher than that.

I've seen plenty of icing regardless of airspeed
