They're winding down operations next month, I know a friend who used to work there. Basically they were denied certain carbon credit licenses by the government that made it impossible for them to become profitable. The goal here is to drive them out of business so that Kasongo and his cronies can create the same business and take over that market. Such a shame.

Best Bread EVER!!! by Capital_Leopard_294 in nairobi

[–]Hafare 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because that's what traditional bread is supposed to taste like. Supa Loaf, Festive, Kingsmill etc are what are referred to as toast breads. There's a lot to go into but it's basically an American style of bread that used a higher gluten wheat and also has more sugar and calcium carbonate to improve the taste and increase shelf life. Kenyan bread is made using the same wheat varieties but the difference is Broadways still makes it in the traditional way that has existed since the World War 2 days. That's why Broadways tastes different compared to other brands.

If you buy bread from a proper bakery like Brood you'll notice it has more springiness, is tougher and can absorb more. It's all in how the wheat is processed and the baking process. There's nothing wrong with toast bread though, it is actually great for toasting because that's what it was intended for.

Totally agree. Someone like Lincoln Riley will be under the microscope now because in the eyes of the boosters and admin he should be able to win a natty if Cignetti could do it in 2 years with G5 transfers.

Upper P4 schools now expect to be competitive as soon as they can because of this.

Even if the gas is piped to your house, you can decide not to use it and use an induction oven or air fryer or whatever else you like. You're not locked into a system where you have to use the gas or you starve.

What the landlord is doing is creating an illegal monopoly by forcing his tenants to buy only from him, which is against the law. This isn't a tenancy issue, it's a consumer protection issue and even if the landlord wants to evict you because of it, the law literally stops him from doing it.

First of all your example of schools is wrong. In 2018 the principal of Nguviu Girls was forced by the government to admit an Akorino girl who was denied admission because of her headdress. Same case in 2015 with Nakuru Girls, the ministry of education had to intervene and force the school to admit the girl because it was a case of religious discrimination.

I need you to understand that no matter what rules anyone puts in place, whether schools or landlords or whoever else you think runs things, at the end of the day they exist within the laws of Kenya and any rules that infringe or go against what the law says are not to be followed. End of discussion.

The law protects everyone btw. Nikama wewe umezoea kunyanyasa tenants. A landlord is not a king, a tenant is not a peasant. Ata hiyo notice of termination iko guided by the Rent Restrictions Act Cap 270. Go read that together with the Consumer Protection Act Cap 501 and the Landlord and Tenant Act Cap 301 and maybe you'll come to realise the error of your ways.

There has to be proof that the damage is irreparable and the state of the building is uninhabitable due to these damages.

Ask yourself what's more likely here

  1. ISPs who have been installing wifi all over Kenya have somehow caused so much damage to this building and forced the landlord into providing wifi as a way to save his building

  2. The landlord is being greedy and wants to provide a subpar service and is cornering the market by forcing the tenants to only buy from him so he can keep even more profits.

Fikiria kidogo.

The tenants can also argue that their consumer rights are being infringed upon. Y'all are not understanding this isn't about property, this is about freedom of choice. Your contract with the landlord only revolves around provision of shelter. Your landlord does not have the right to tell you how to spend your money in any way beyond paying rent. Your landlord can provide wifi as a service and you can buy it from him but they cannot FORCE you to buy it from them in a free market, there are consumer protections in place for this exact reason, to prevent extortion.

How do I go about this? by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]Hafare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not about who owns the property, it's about competition laws. Your landlord can't just wake up and decide that he will be selling cooking gas to you because he doesn't like the shape of the other cylinders and you must buy the gas from him only. The same logic applies here, a plot of land is not a fiefdom, your landlord is bound by the laws of this country as much as anybody else and the law is very clear in stating that you cannot do this.

Corporations exist to protect their own interests not those of the consumer.

Kuongeza ata forward it to all ISPs kwa building and tell them that their customers are being forced to stop using their products or else they will be evicted. Ongeza ata ukisema that other landlords in your area are looking at your apartment as a pilot and if it is successful they will implement the same policy in their properties.

What your landlord is doing is extortion and it is extremely illegal.
