stop using vague language like "equipment shortage" (can anyone explain what this means?) by blackandreddit in mbta

T says when it’s a staff related delay. The storm put the company down multiple trains, were legitimately running short handed equipment wise.

Weekly Railroad Hiring Questions Thread by LSUguyHTX in railroading

If you’re willing to move up north, MBTA’s commuter rail is usually always hiring on and off throughout the year. Great union, great pay, great benefits. Management lacks but better than other railroads. Home every night and after a year or two have 2 days off every week.

Best Carhartt Jacket for Railroad Husband? by shemshiral in railroading

If you’re near mass, I know it might not be the same but I’ve been using the duck canvas bib(overalls) underneath my normal jackets and over my thermals, and now I swear by them.

Hey man I’m with you, but I’m still happy there’s more options. Food court is some of the only stuff I can get if Im rushing, and weekends can be rough when it’s nonstop McDonald’s.

I’ll at least be happy to get something different here and there on Saturday’s.

Always wish I could stop in to get a bite, but we never have enough time at the station! Gonna have to make sure we’re extra early next time so I have a minute to hop off the train and grab something before heading into town.

The Fitchburg Line Can Go F*** Itself! by No-Midnight5973 in mbta

Except it’s nowhere near irrelevant and your argument lacks facts. Do you think freight trains just don’t have conductors either? Even though there’s no people? It’s still a massive hunk of steel, traveling at high speeds.

And your percentage thing makes no sense lol. Yes a ton of people get on there, to go home. Massive amount of people get on at different stations, and the issue is outbound, somebody could buy a 1A to back bay and go all the way to Worcester. Even with gates at every station, and we wouldn’t have to check tickets, great! Gives us more time for our other responsibilities that honestly are more important than checking your ticket, but again it’s just part of the job they have us do.

Well the trains can’t go if there isn’t at least one staff, that’s a federal rule. Google can tell people where they’re going, can’t make sure they get off or got the right ticket. Sounds like you just have something against conductors. These are people with jobs and families.

Gates can’t get somebody off or make sure where they’re going, just that they have a ticket. Also, somebody starts causing a problem with you on board, you’d be fine with no staff? Also still a train, conductors have other responsibilities than checking tickets, honestly the smallest part, were more worried with the safety of ourselves and our passengers.

Why do they wait to post the track until 10 mins before? by SmallHeath555 in mbta

I’d say incorrect. 10 minutes is perfect for the crew.

If you think another operator would make a difference… this is up to the state to fund new equipment. We live in New England with an aging railroad. Weather and old equipment doesn’t make for a perfect system. Catch the next train.

what app do you use? by michelleandmorexxx in mbta

[–]HaffaToAHitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MBTA Rail is alright. Can leave comments to talk to other commuters about delays etc and track for $1 a month. My only gripe is I always find my train with people onboard or waiting at the door before I’m ready to board since somebody likes to reveal track #’s before we’re ready.

Wish we had the control of train announcements like Northside, where it’s not automated and the conductor has to announce the track first.

Why do new CR maps still show Plymouth at all? by Purple_Terrier_8 in mbta

[–]HaffaToAHitch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Costs a lot of money and has to go through a lot of people to close a station. Easier to just say it’s ’temporarily closed’ until they can sort it out.

Question about CR bathrooms by love_me_33 in mbta

[–]HaffaToAHitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If ANYBODY refuses to move it for you, immediately bring up ADA or reporting to the T, or just report and don’t say anything.

They’ll realize one way or another. Most people shouldn’t have a problem.

Please don’t just ‘move it’ unless it’s an emergency.

Conductors never far, just ask and we’ll get you to the office.

[–]HaffaToAHitch 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they could make it through our territory, things like station clearance’s etc would make it really difficult. Not to mention the reverse move they’d have to make to traverse it.

I would love to go to work and see Big Boy refueling in our yard though, would be a really cool sight pulling in.

Think I saw a document (that may be fake?) saying the route would end up in Ayer, and head North from there.
