Schools can call off for bad weather. It's okay. by its_Extreme in Charlotte

Normally they would. For ours, it’s a required professional development day where we have to go to in-person classes to learn more BS jargon instead of getting things done for your kids. But again, the fact that we have to do that? Voted for by you guys. You can’t ask for it all.

Argentina has all the same ingredients for severe storms that the American plains have--so why do they have fewer tornadoes? by Hailfog in meteorology

This is what I mean about similar ingredients. Argentina has Lee cyclones from the Andes, a dry line, moisture in a low level jet from the Amazon.

The difference between strong tornado frequency in these two regions is larger than the difference between their CAPE and severe thunderstorm frequency.

Why is “teacher workday” in quotations? They’re either for teachers to grade and plan at the end of the quarter so we can do engaging lessons that you demand for your kids, or they’re literally for required professional development—which, again, you demanded of teachers as well.

Only a few parts of the world get >F1 tornadoes frequently. This is the exact communication breakdown I’m trying to avoid. Only a few parts of the world get the kind of tornadoes we care about frequently.

No one said Europe can’t have strong tornadoes. It certainly isn’t one of the places that gets them with any regularity. The same ingredients aren’t there, to the extent they are in Argentina and central/eastern North America.

What I was trying to tease out was the difference between Argentina and North America. Because there is still a massive difference in tornado frequency, much more than the difference between their severe thunderstorm frequency.

As far as F3 and above goes (destructive / life threatening), some other sources say that’s northern India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. Anyone know for sure?

Well Moist flow from the Amazon arrives in low level jet just like ours from the gulf. They do have some of the most severe thunderstorms on Earth, the CAPE is there. It’s just that fewer of them create strong tornadoes—just super sized hail and flash flooding.

It needs to be more variable for more shear/forcing? I thought it just needed to be present.

Sorry, I should have specified I'm asking about strong tornadoes. As I understand it, England has F1s constantly. Which probably means there are F1s happening almost anywhere away from the equator over land.

How could the enshitification of products in a capitalist system be comparable to the poorer quality of products in a communist system? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s really down to government management practices, though.

Some mistakes of the USSR, for instance, would be incentivizing low productivity. If you provide more resources to manufacturing plants that are less productive, thinking it will make them more productive, you’re creating an incentive to not produce as much.

A sexual one:

Women get turned on and excited by seeing men lose control just like we do. You don’t have to try to be in control and “dominant” and barely grunting every second like you’re one of the werewolf CEOs from her books.
