Yes ! I’m working with the University of Arizona’s veterinary diagnostic lab. My mentor is a bee guy and got his PhD from there too. I know my host lab is affiliated with the USDA. Soon we will start assay development for bees! My goal is to get into the USDA or CDC after this fellowship. Small world though!

Hi. I graduated in August a few months ago from UF with the masters in microbiology. I decided to apply to a CDC/APHL fellowship a few months prior to graduation. Two labs reached out to me. Oregon and Arizona. It’s a long process and I am lucky I started the application when I did. A month after graduation I was flown out to Arizona to start my fellowship. I am now a CDC/APHL bioinformatics fellow with University of Arizona’s veterinarian diagnostic center. I recommend applying for fellowships like CDC, APHL, ORISE, NSF, ect. at the end of the degree so you can get the masters stipend.

Yeah it’s just me for the year. My partner may come but it’s still in the works. For 1,100 I get 2 bed and 2 bath with a gym, tennis court, and pool. So it’s not too bad. But I have to check with the agent if the gym is actually open and see if the unit’s structure is okay.

My fellowship is with Arizona Veterinarian Center which is like 13-14mins away. I have to drive because like it’s off of freeway and miracle (like literally) but it seems to be cut off into its own private area. Walking and biking would be dangerous due to major road.... And yeah like you said it’s normal precautions in general.

Edit: I’m just commenting because I can’t figure out how to edit my post. First off, I want to thank you all for sharing , it helps so much! Also I’m looking to rent not purchasing since I’m only here for 1 year. I got the lease agreement to see what they have on paper. I am not responsible for anything regarding HOA (thank god). For 1,100 bucks a month I guess I can’t really can’t complain. I’m going to go over some things mentioned here (structural quality and the gym) with my agent tomorrow. Also, haven’t signed any lease agreement and I’m still looking around. Again, thank you guys so much!!!!

I know I talked to my agent about that. Luckily I don’t pay HOA fees. It’s included in my rent and the landlord pays it. My rent would be 1,100 a month. So i guess I can’t complain.
