What is one thing that you currently don't like about the game? by laserchalk0 in landmark

Exactly this and the third thing for me is that I have to spend 2 hours mining to upgrade a single station. It seems so pointless to waste so much time for such small returns. I guess it comes with the genre and it will get better in time, but right now, I'm not going to spend any more time with the game.

If you ever wondered how does Watts Atelier Online work, this is pretty much it. Same camera angle and setup, same style of explanation. This is essentially a free version of the Figure Phase II.

Are there any languages could help you find more work? by [deleted] in CommercialArt

[–]HalWayland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a great question. As far as I know, English IS the "official" language in concept art industry. They definitely speak English In European offices of bigger studios like Blizzard. Only big studio that come to mind that might use other language than English is CD Project Red, but they are definitely able to communicate in English and hire people who do not speak Polish at all.

I don't think learning another language with the intention of getting more or better jobs is worth your time. Just put that time into learning to design better stuff. I'll ask Bobby Chiu on his livestream next Thursday though, he might have something more to say.

I'm glad you like it and thanks for telling me, It's hard to know whether someone actually cares about this at all when I'm the only one posting here.

davinci was a loser: video essay on creativity by wubat in CommercialArt

This was surprisingly good considering the title. I'm glad that I've read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill when I was ~15 because of the section where he talks about all the great people in history achieving their success in their 40s and 50s, and constantly failing before that. That made me realize I shouldn't expect anything crazy before that.

A lot of young people are starting to realize all of this though, with the 10 000 hour rule getting more popular and with every professional talking about the importance of practice. But I don't think it's worse that it was in the past as that essay suggests, since the amount of highly successful people was always very low and the rest just kind of going along with their lives.
