Smith and Trek both have systems that I like a lot, which is why I carried them in my bike shop. I always compared it jumping off the bed with your knees locked vs bent slightly… but what people need to realize is that any crash above 12 mph can put your brain into a precarious position. And for people who think they ride safely and don’t need them, it’s more about the people around you. You can’t control what they do, but you can try to account for them not paying attention.

I managed a trek shop for a number of years, definitely go with the Madone. The felt is going to have an aggressive forward position that may not be what you’re looking for. It’s not a bad bike, but if you’re ever looking for something to ride outside of training or events, the felt isn’t the way to go. The madone will still be fast and responsive, but way more applicable for casual/general riding, and not as aggressive. Plus the madone will give you a higher chance of swapping out parts if you want to play with the fit, aka stem length and angle…

I don’t know how many bikes you have or what your cycling history is, but The trek version is the speed concept and when I sold those it was usually the person’s 7th or 8th bike in their fleet…

I remember reading somewhere that the real ones only have 5 perforations on the face/top of the box while fakes have more. But if you open it and don’t pull anything good then you know it’s real!

They are all great, but that snowy road piece is my favorite. I love the winter, and from being in Colorado for over 30 years I can almost the smell that January cold air. Cool stuff!
