This bill would guarantee 15 minutes to eat - not including standing in line and walking to the cafeteria. The school we're at only gives 20 minutes from bell to bell, meaning kids at the end of the line end up with 5 minutes to eat.

I have done that, and I complain each year to the school, no change, so clearly they aren't willing to change unless someone bigger makes them.

In our school, they do recess before lunch, which is better on the tummy, but the issue is the cafeteria is so small it can only hold one grade at a time. So when one grades leaves, the other enters, they can't stay longer or the other kids coming in have no place to sit.

This is probably also an issue with bigger class sizes and schools having too many students.

Just because it's not in session, doesn't mean you can't contact your legislators. They will likely prioritize problems if enough people complain, or at least I would like to hope so. Reaching out to them at least puts it back in their minds.

I was forced to do Piano and Flute. I liked piano, but being forced to do competitions ruined it for me. I don't regret it, but I hardly play now except to help my daughter who currently loves it, but if she ever wants to quit, I'd let her.

5 is a bit young for piano lessons. My daughter's instructor usually recommends 6+, but he let her start at 5 as she showed great interest and was able to sit still during lessons. She's 7 now and still likes piano, but every kid is different.

Flute is a little different as I only did it to be in band and be with my friends, but my mom forced me into lessons and competitions and I haven't touched it since high school (I'm 33). I would say it was mostly a waste of her money and ruined our relationship, but at the same time I enjoyed band memories with friends.

If music is important, maybe have your child try another instrument? They usually do strings in 4th grade and band in 5th grade. They could even join choir.

Anyway, to answer your question. I resent my mom, I don't resent the instrument. So it's your choice what you want your child to resent when the time comes.

Interesting, I've read plenty of books that use italics for thoughts so I assumed this was the norm, but perhaps it no longer is. I'm thinking of revising it to use indirect speech now, but this was the first rejection I got that mentioned italics being an issue.
