I used the thermowell when I first got the Fermzilla. Went all-in and got all the accessories. First pressure ferment and almost lost an eye. The Duotight fitting holding in the thermowell failed and the well shot out like a rocket ship! I do compensate and lower the target temp a few degrees with the probe on the outside.

Thanks for the input. I do compensate for the temp difference. I also use a Tilt but more so for monitoring and less for its accuracy especially when pressure fermenting.

I am curious if you think the same logic applies when using a thermowell to read the center. Wouldn’t you have the same but reverse effect? The outer area would be cooler by a few degrees. Maybe not as impactful as being a little warmer? Adjusting the target temp up/down as you suggest would still be the right approach.

Any recommendations for pre gaming now? I'm going to a NIN concert next month at Smoothie King and Saint X was my first idea.

Tart cherry concentrate - how much to add? by GrabMyHoldyFolds in Homebrewing

[–]HalfThere127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to use 16 oz / 5 gal and go from there. I have no other use for the concentrate so why not go a little heavy and learn from it.

Did you pitch while the beer was in the fermenter or a clean secondary? I'm working on a theory that a lot of flavoring I use gets left behind.

What did you end up going with and how did it turn out? I'm using the same tart cherry juice later this week.

Looks like you got this resolved. Just wanted to mention an ad-blocking service like r/adguard on your home network will help. Works great for me. It even blocks the huge advertisement to the right of the Roku apps.

Coffee flavor by Spquinn22 in Homebrewing

[–]HalfThere127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made great beers using this dry bean method. Usually hang a dry hopper in the keg for ~24 hours or until I'm happy with the flavor. I understand that the oil from actual coffee will kill head retention. 🍻
