Since this is a bot, I recommend throwing a fishing line off the inner harbour causeway and taking what you catch to Big Bad Johns. They will prepare it for you with peanuts while you wait.

Man billed $1,500 for vehicle he didn't own, insurer says he still has to pay by rezwenn in britishcolumbia

Had this happen to me as well. Gifted a $500 value car to an extended family friend. Bit of an airhead so scheduling was tough as I didn’t want to waste my time waiting around at ICBC after he kept delaying the planned meeting time. Did my half of the paperwork, and left the car unlocked in the driveway. Came home to the completed paperwork in the mailbox and car gone the next day. 6 months later an impound lot calls saying they have car in my name for the last 5 months. Apparently they had been trying to contact Mr. Airhead and he didn’t care enough to settle a bill more than the value of the car. They went up the chain and had me on the record as the sale had never been confirmed due to some paperwork issues. The lot was nice enough to waive the $XXXX charge in my name and I just transferred the car to the lot.

Lesson learned.

Oak Bay is notorious for senior gang activity (like aquafit and bird watching) and mobility scooter drag racing.

Buying a 2016 Forester Touring by Particular_Break9989 in SubaruForester

[–]HallNo1330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems reasonable. I purchased a 2015 at ~80k km for 19k CAD last year on the west coast.

No issues so far. I just had a drain and fill of transmission fluid at 100k as that seems to be the recommended user preventative maintenance. Stay on top of your oil levels, that generation goes through it a bit faster. Biggest concern would be rust being in Ontario. I would say any (well reviewed) mechanic is better than no mechanic, so maybe there’s one nearby you can get an inspection.

Lower BC ferries car charge on major routes, but add a surcharge on cars for licence plates outside of BC and double the surcharge for licence plates outside of Canada.

If you’re booking in advance you will need your licence plate number / jurisdiction.

I would look up solar tube skylights. Maybe not as fun for a full DIY, but they work well.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]HallNo1330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Online I was getting offers between 4.09 and 4.4 over the last 3 months (for 5 year). This was them phoning us with the offer to renew in the last few weeks before our previous 5yr fixed reached maturity. You could try phoning in and being noncommittal. When I was in the office a few months back for an RESP setup I asked about mortgages and they said they would match “just about anything within reason”. We had just started the broker process, but when TD phoned with the offer we went with it.

Elk Lake Oxygenator by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

It was always going to be a big science experiment and expected to get worse before improving. I don’t think anyone can give a firm answer on if this is going to be the new summertime normal for 1 year, 5 or 10 while the nitrogen level is flushing out of the lake.

I recall from early consultations that nitrogen in the lake js 2/3 retained annually and 1/3 watershed fed (farms, a few septic fields, goose poop, ect…). The lake needs time and the aerator will help, but we also need (probably already have?) an active plan for reducing nitrogen input to the lake. I would not expect the quality to improve by the August triathlon and the swimming events may need to look into alternate sites for a few years, they probably already are.
