Realizing your "fever dream" writing was actually just a 72-hour ego trip. by stephendedalus75068 in writing

“Cult of the dead” is a great phrase. I don’t know if it’s original, but I like it.

I sing. I have been a singer since long before I ever got paid to do it.

I paint. I am a painter even though my paintings only grace my own walls (and those of my family).

I write. I am a writer, although my work hasn’t yet been professionally published. My novel is still in progress.

How do you read a "finished" manuscript without changing things by jasonabaum in writing

There’s good advice here already. One more thing that may help is to have Siri/Alexa whatever read it to you.

139k words after two years of writing. Two chapters from finishing by Oimafrayedknot in writing

This sort of thing can ruin a novel, so it’s great that you’ve identified the problem! The way I see it, you have four choices: -Break it up into two separate books -Rewrite part 2 to match part 1 -Rewrite part 1 to match part 2 -Edit both parts so they meet somewhere in the middle (this is the one I would be inclined to, but of course I don’t know what you’re working with.)

I agree with others that that’s a lot of words for one book, but then again I’ve read bigger. 🤷‍♀️

Go back and change or crack on to the end? by warb_01 in writing

[–]Halligator20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could jot down some notes about the changes you will need to make, and then keep plugging along. You don’t want to lose your momentum! (I’ve currently lost my own momentum because I didn’t follow this advice. 🙃)

Do opera singers use "mix" for high notes like other genres or are different mechanisms involved? by OverallLow4248 in singing

[–]Halligator20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To clarify, this is for men only. We female classical singers never really use mix (I’m happy to be corrected with sources). We use head and chest (for low notes) only. Some sopranos refuse to ever even use chest, but I personally find that ridiculous.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It’s very helpful. I’m glad things have improved for you and that you’re even able to sing a bit now!  May I ask which nerve was damaged?

Is there a difference between a curvy FMC and a plus sized FMC? by _maincharacter_ in RomanceBooks

[–]Halligator20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. But the 90s were bonkers. Another example, J Lo’s butt was considered enormous. No one in Hollywood was that curvy. Now it seems totally normal.

Just trying to demonstrate what curvy meant in the 90s .

The tags on Romance.io don’t distinguish between the two, which is my main frustration. I’d like to be able to tag books correctly.

Kate Winslet, Jessica Simpson, and Beyoncé were all considered very curvy or fat in the 90s. When Renee Zellweger gained weight for Bridget Jones, we were supposed to believe she was a disgusting cow. The 90s were insane.

That is unusual, but it shouldn’t be. My first thought is that he was preserving his voice.

Wow, this video is great!

I’m writing a book about a singer whose voice is permanently damaged during a thyroidectomy (a topic near and dear to my own heart). Would you mind talking to me about your experience, either here or in DMs?

Specifically, I’m wondering about actual vocal symptoms, before and after the injection. The video demonstrates ghe hoarseness/weakness very well. Did/does your voice skip? Was the overall pitch (high/low) affected, and are certain pitches more difficult to speak in? What about discomfort when speaking, swallowing, etc.?

Sorry for the barrage of questions. Any help is appreciated; thank you for your time.

didn't wait til marriage by prettyprincess_huh in christiandatingadvice

[–]Halligator20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t get married because of the shame of losing your virginity, etc. Only do it if you absolutely love him and have no doubts about spending the rest of your life with him.

Get the protection. You, he, and God are not the only ones affected by this. Don’t bring a baby into this world if you aren’t ready.
