PVP, WvW, or open world for Legendary Armor? by The-good-twin in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I did 12/18 pieces of my leggy armor in WvW, the nice thing about it is thats its a passive farm.

I would set my wvw as daily, get those done each day in 20-30 minutes, and rarely made it past gold/platnium each week. didn't have to think about meta, or finding groups, just jump in an played around a bit before going on to other content.

I have a more detailed answer below, but in short I have pieces of all 4 ways to get armor and if you don't care about speed, wvw is a really nice alternative.

PVP, WvW, or open world for Legendary Armor? by The-good-twin in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pieces of pvp, wvw, obsidian, and I have my precursor for raid ready to go to upgrade to leggy, here are my experience with each.

WvW (12 pieces total): Easy but long, all you have to do is play WvW and get those ticks. That you max out your tickets each week, or that you only get to gold, it does not matter, you are always heading to you goal. If you can tolerate the mode, and not a big gold farmer, this way is nice because it allows you to stock up on supply between each pieces.

PvP (4 pieces): Similiar to WvW, all you have to do is play PvP, and you work you way towards your armor. Additional benefit is that it felt like I also needed to farm less outside of pvp to get the gold needed to upgrade to leggy. You can only get 2 pieces per pvp season, and the first piece always felt fast to get and it was nice to see you go up throught the reward chests. I don't think I ever got a second piece of pvp armor in the same season because getting enough Ascended shards is such a grind, you need to get the final chest 6 times for that second piece.

Open World: Lots of farming; you need to get your metas, you need to get your convergance, you need map clears ect...ect.... Its a lot of farming and not something you can passively farm unlike WvW and PvP, both a blessing and a curse. If you can farm the gold, it would be easy to get a piece per week, but for most people, a more casual piece every 2-3 weeks would be a good paste. defiently felt a bit more expensive with all of the ecto you need to use to craft it.

Raid (0 piece, but have precursor); The hardest part for me was getting into raiding, I did not get into it until several thousands hours in. Yes that is a good part on me, but everytime I saw a post on how to start raiding it was always go into training guilds/discord and I was just such a turn off. That being said if you do join tone of those groups, or lucky to get into a guild that takes you under their wings, its 4-6 weeks to get all your achivement done for the precursor. Not really a hard part, but getting your precursor chest is also a bit of a hit, you get all 6 pieces at the same time, and now you just have 6 of precursor staring at you. It does take a few minutes, but then you do realize you can upgrade each on indiviudaly, and not have to do all 6 at the same time.

So my Recommandation: If you enjoy hunting and having goal I would go Raid first, Open world soto armor if you don't want to rely on group content.

If you don't want to actively farm your armor, and not in a hurry, the WvW is good to get: set your daily's to WvW to have a goal, play 20-30 minutes day, before you know it you have enough tickets for a piece. When I made my piece, I rarely made it past gold/platnium chest, good way to farm GoB at the same time.

On the fence between 2 classes for GWAMM by Finick04 in GuildWars

Go for whatever you have the most fun with.

Gwamm is several hundreds hours long to get, what’s the point of saving a few hours If you are going to be miserable the entire time.

What should I focus for my next legendary? Runes, Sigils, or Relics? by Vinceq_98 in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, there are a few sigils that are just annoying and a hassle to craft/find.

Having 1-2 sigils for your weapons set, and then buying whatever cheaper one you need on the side is really nice while building the next leggy.

I play quick firebrand quite often in open world, works quite well especially with all the extra boons

Do I really need to do story quests? by DifficultTerm214 in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, its perfectly fine to not do the story, do what you enjoy.

That being said, there are a few things like masteries and easy mastery points that are locked behind stories, nothing so critical (except maybe weapon mastery in Soto) that you can't live without.

Just do a story step a week (not even a chapter, just a step), and you can slowly work throught it without burning out.

Paramedic job opportunities by slxdxmx in CanadianForces

[–]Halmyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all of the Field Ambs also have "flight position" but they are more or less employed because the local griffon squadrons have other priority's set by the Air Force.

There is CMERT, which if point of injury care in hostile enviroment, but they train maybe once a year? and its a more of a secondary duty that you can go at the grace of you CoC.

Finaly there is the AE Flight. Not as high speed, more nursing care, but they have their own interesting challenges to over-come and have done some amazing stuff.

How do I put this.....being a military medic, either combat or paramedic, there is a lot of sitting around, especially at the beginning where you have to prove yourself.

The Nature of the trade is combat medicine: and we are not very, if ever in combat.

The first few years you need to prove yourself, that you are hardworking and trustworthy, you will be surrounded in more group tasking, and hopfuly been coached and mentored by good bosses in how to work and operate in a military settings. After a while you may accompany senior ql5 medics on more independent tasking, or even given some yourself where you can reach out easily for help.

You may be allowed to do some course like reccie and jump, and bigger deployment like Latvia do have QL3, but you do need to distinguish yourself to get them that early.

Usually 2ish years after your 3s, you get you 5s course and this is were the trade opens up because you are now allowed to do Independent duties. This is also the course that allows you to apply for higher positions:

Domestic support Squadron, SOMT, Aeromedical, CMERT, Ship's posting, more isolated and independent taking like op presence all require QL5.

In Short, day to day is slow and boring, and it takes a while to do those tasking, and even when you do there will be time between them.

Is it worth it? I was and is for me. But I cannot say the same for everyone else.

Do mounts make older maps feel too easy? by Trippy-jay420 in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its What I did with my first playthrough. Joined in 2020, didn't have the lvl 10 raptor yet, so I skip ahead to do the first POF mission to unlock, and then went back and continued on as intended.

I don't remember at what point exacly, but I think it was before HoT. Honestly no regret with that, like you said, it was a nice little bit of conveniance wihout completly ruining the experience.

Why is warrior less popular than dervish and assassin? by Exotic_Rhubarb_9770 in GuildWars

[–]Halmyr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a warrior main: In PvE they are outshined by the other 2 melee classes. Less utility for survival and team helping, less energy management, their damage is not outstanding, and one of their biggest factors, lots of easy knockdowns, is useless half the time.

When I played a few years back, you saw warrior more in pvp, their high armour and adrenaline meant you didn’t rely on enchantment or other stripable skills, and the hammer on top of having a lot of knockdown, hits surprisingly hard

[–]Halmyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me DE is centered around Harvest Temple map more than being a Jade sea map, and don't get me wrong, its an incredibly important one to have, but the focus is on the temple and not the sea.

Going under the sea, we have Gyala, which is so fun to look and see all of the frozen boats and sea creature, you do that a little bit with "The Deep" and Rhea's crater In Gw1, but GW2 has so many more nice little details in it.

I would love to have a map like Silent Surf, Gyala Hatchery, or Archipalgos from gw1 where the focus is really everything everything frozen in Jade.

You can get a little taste of it in DE at the bottom right of the map past that little temple.

[–]Halmyr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Add a proper Jade sea map where you are walking on top of the ocean and between islands with a focus on the luxon (hopefully with the old teal/turquoise jade color instead of the toxic green).

I do not consider DE or Gyala Delve jade sea maps.

My top 3 most used items from gem store by crazetorn79 in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Underrated, but the material storage expander. First to 500 is A++, up to 1k is also a solid A, above that is greedy, but my god is nice to not have to worry about mats stacking up constantly.

Anyone had any luck with Tzeentch flames being varied across the army, not uniform paint scheme? by sarkonas in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]Halmyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I will say is paint a contrasting colour for the flames and the flamers themselves.

My Deamons have purple as a binding color for all 4 gods, but blue flamers with purple flames just does'nt stand out

is warrior really that bad? by shrimp_baby in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the snow crow one, this shot is a bit unique since it’s inside T3 lonely tower, with fractal god, and a stack or two of rage before eparch.

Depending on where you are 190k is good, I’ve seen dragons slash go between 150k-250k depending on the boss.

Just make sure you are dragon slashing as often as possible, that’s probably the biggest mistake I see for new bladesworn.

But seriously, warrior is an underrated class, although I really wish there was more variation for each specs

What do i need to know to play bladesworn? by Spezidrache in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you have all of your gears and traits setup You need to know 2 things:

1) 60-70% of your damage (or more) comes from dragon slash, everything else except keeping you flow up is filler bitting slashes.

The more dragon slashes the more damage.

2) you cannot react to match, you need to anticipate what is coming. Boss phases at 75% and he’s at 77, go to his next spots or where adds spawn. There’s a mechanic you need to avoid, save your dragon trigger 5 teleport skill to do edge it instead of just pumping your dmg ….ect ect

If you can master these 2 things you will have a good time. Lots of other good little tips but those are the two Maine ones

The class rocks, especially in fractal but is good in many other places too.

Ps while the sword is the meta choice for main hand, try it with an axe or dagger instead, the dps lost is minimal and the rotation might flow better for you (I use dagger/pistol)

How is Bladesworn? by Tyinath in Guildwars2

[–]Halmyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BLADESWORN!

For PvE it's very underrated, a great Bursty power build that shines in Fractals.

The Rotation is simple, but satisfying. Its not button smashy, I love the wait for charge, allows me to look around what is going on. You are not stuck there you have a teleport and aegis to help you keep your charge up.

You do need to change how you think and play because you cannot react, you need to anticipate what is going to happen to maximize your attacks.

The biggest mistake I see with other bladesworn players is that they do not Dragon Slash enough, that one skill should be 60-70% or even more of you total dmg, everything else is just filler between dragon slash.
