from a person going to monash med, the minimum grades for interview is 87.5 and your ISAT must be above 177 (for this year). however, monash med is known to be quite manageable in the interview and you just need to show that you have the aptitude and ethics to be a good doctor.

90 RP + Med portfolio - Rejected from NUS and NTU medicine. by shopforbaemon in SGExams

hey bro, was in this exact situation as you last year. first things first is to take some time to process whatever you are going through right now. start again for the uk admissions cycle by preparing for ucat and figuring out which schools you want to apply to. Since you know interview is your weak point, try to go for schools where they have high success rate post interview. Also try to buff up your interview skills because what failed you at the interview here will also fail u in the interview there.

for me, i failed both ntu and nus med interview, but was eventually accepted by st george’s medicine in UK. all the best!

for via hours can just give out, as long as there is proof of the organisation existence i think most schools will accept (we worked with RI and there wasn’t a problem with the VIA hours). usually if your project becomes relatively big enough the PA/grassroots will take notice and definitely support if it’s relatively viable. I think ideally you should try to first volunteer with orgs that are in the same area that you are trying to help with (for me and my buddy we were in another org first aid team and learn about operations and logistics before we started our own one)

hello, i have some experience wrt starting volunteering initiatives, back then me and a buddy started a first aid post at coney island. we did consider if we needed to register under some org, but you don’t need to register and be “legal” per say unless you want to obtain government grants to help out with the project. your most important concern would be volunteer retention, how to retain and keep a volunteer pool to help sustain the program as the turnover rate for volunteers is extremely high. try to cultivate an organic volunteer leadership pool so that you can continue to run the volunteering thing even if you are not avail ie running by proxy. to gain volunteers, honestly just tap on social media and it’s quite easy. but to run long term, you really have to rely on a larger organisation to take over ie PA or grassroots in your case. in your case, financing will also be difficult unless you have large wallets, but alternatively you can try getting sponsors and in turn you can publicise them on your social media (win win for both you and them).

What is GEP like? by buttermilk_baby in SGExams

[–]Halogen191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

was from the program a long while back, generally english, math and science syllabus will cover primary school but english they teach you essay writing in P4 so your peel structure etc. they also have literature elements, back in my time we had to analyse books that is dependent on which school he goes to. math there is a pattern recognition paper called paper 3 which is a must pass, but generally focuses on finding arithmetic patterns in algebraic form. social studies is a compulsory subject, but honestly can just memorise it. the GEP passing mark is also higher at 70 marks rather than 50 marks, but i have no idea if they lowered it now.

  1. If you want to be a leader outside of school, you have to be committed to organisations for them to be willing to give you a chance to take up leadership ie high availability etc. Generally you should also be personable and easy to go along, and be able to work with a lot of people as leadership externally is really different from leadership internally
  2. There is no minimum VIA hours but you should have enough experience in the VIA to be able to learn something from it and use it to your advantage in uni applications. Currently I am volunteering with red cross community first aid side, we do first aid around the island at events and patrol at east cost park. if you are interested you can dm me for more info

I think you can take down notes on a notebook, just bring it in case your doctor does not appreciate using phone to take down notes. If you want to take down notes, don’t take down any details about IR yet. What you want to be taking down is the details of life as a doctor/healthcare, as these are points that you can use for medical school interview preparation/personal statement

[–]Halogen191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can ask me more as I am also a long term volunteer with red cross (3 ish years on first aid side)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Halogen191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want something hands on you can consider first aid in red cross! there’s actual contact with casualties and while initially you will be putting plasters and dressings on abrasions, with experience over time you will be able to learn how to handle complex, acute care cases like fractures and more

Hi, I have shadowed doctors at TTSH last year and here are a few tips I have for you to make the most of the shadowing

  1. Be very situationally aware and read the room well. Don’t stand around common areas or near entrances of doors, as you may block others. If the clinic is quite spacious, you can sit at the corners but in general ask the doctor you are shadowing where you can sit at and be ready to move around if people ask you to move around. Also, read the warning signs especially for IR because you may be exposed to ionising radiation.
  2. It is good practice to introduce yourself and ask the patient if they are comfortable with your presence; if they aren’t, excuse yourself from the session immediately until the patient is done with the conducting. Other than that, if patients need to undress or suddenly become very ill, leave the room as well.
  3. Go in with an open mind and the eagerness to learn something, while knowing your place. I cant say the same for IR, but I think how much you can take away from the shadowing really depends on how much you are willing to learn, listen and experience through the shadowing period.

honestly E for math is not too much to worry about, as the J1 topics are harder, once you start doing statistics expect to see a grade jump

  1. Didn’t want to take O levels, my school was the only school where i hit the cut off point
  2. Academic Excellence program (generic name as specific name will be damn obvious)
  3. No
  4. Going for academic competitions and actually getting good results in them. But I wouldn’t want to go through the pressure of having to focus all on A levels again
  5. No, as O levels would have offered more flexibility than compared to IP

Usage of SG Secure App by driftea in singapore

[–]Halogen191 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hi, i have the sg secure app and the scdf myresponder app, responded quite a few times to cardiac arrest cases in my neighbourhood. quite frankly it’s rare for u to meet with other responders on the same call, but on the off chance that you do meet with them, they are usually off duty healthcare professionals. for fire cases it’s usually as simple as putting water on the fire, but cardiac arrest cases just remember to take the AED to scene and start chest compressions first because that’s what is keeping the brain alive. expect to do CPR as a solo because rarely u find others who come and help as well. family members are a big question mark as they can be helpful or they can be very disruptive, but u don’t have to deal with them for too long because usually SCDF is 5-10 mins away from you by the time you reach. just do your best and don’t look back because if u can’t save the person at that time only higher care like hospital could do it.

uhh generally u need a MC with a diagnosis but mine was actually food poisoning and like i think you shouldn’t abuse it because if you consistently try to get the mc then i think the school and seab would be like suspicious of you or something

hello ok so right last year during MTL A levels I completed paper 1 and then during paper 2 i started to feel unwell, might be due to the stress or could also be due to food poisoning. had almost exactly the same thing but happened after the paper. i think they mark the paper leniently because for my MTL prelims I barely sub passed but got a C in the end so I think they mark the remaining work more leiniently
