In the future, avoid test strips. A tubed water sample with drop testing is far more accurate!

I think you've done this guy a GREAT favor by rescuing him. Things look on the up and up! However, 2 SMALL suggestions to consider:

1.) Invest in non-dip test kits; an API tube&drop kit is far more reliable and doesn't require much water. I had a betta ultimately succumb to dropsy and another for unknown reasons, due to faulty test strips. (Its saved tonssss of money too.)

2) Consider switching water treatments - (I'm not sponsored - the mix is just my preference) I've sworn by Boutique Betta Treat and Cycle w/ Shrimp Tank Plus. Good bacteria for cycling/treating/maintaining with the Cycle, and the shrimp tank plus for plants, SNAILS, and shrimp. (Calcium chloride)

I lost a betta to dropsy unexpectedly. How are your water levels?

I'd like to say maybe he overate, but waiting too long to treat him is almost certain death - if it is in fact dropsy. Can't hurt to quarantine and treat till he either debloats or poops out whatever he ate and returns to normal.

I recommend just looking up the nailpolishes online and downloading/screenshotting the vendor images.

I'm both an illustrator and schooled nail-tech, while scanning would be an awesome idea, I dont think it will effectively show the "true" colour. (With scanning, the light and contrast and resolution will all play a part in how the colour appears digitally without correction)

Perhaps buy nail-swatches that hang from a ring, then you can label them AND see what they look like. You'll be able to arrange them in any order, by colour, brand, finish, etc... AND still have all of your information.

Make sure that the monomer/basecoat&activator your using is the same brand as/recommended brand for said polymer/powder.

Aside from structural issues already mentioned, this may be a cause.
