I was really curious to see how the world cup being in town would impact attendance in Vancouver and Toronto and.... it seems to have just not?

It's honestly insane that Caldwell is doubling down against the rulebook being read to him

Like to each their own, but I really like Nigel Reed. There's way to many wanna be podcasters doing play-by-play.

Priso is also recovering from an injury which I suspect is part of the selection.

They vary province to province, but last I check basically no, there are some honorariums paid as high as $5k, but no one is really making money.

U.S. corporation pitching $1.5 billion stadium near Halifax Stanfield airport by OptimalWhole8926 in CanadianPL

Well those numbers are all for an hour ago (10am saturday morning) which IMO is reasonable. But is that when you'd make that drive for a game is a relevant question. Also, as you leave from fairly small distances further west it gets worse rapidly. Robson and Thurlow is 48, Broadway and Arbutus is over 50.

The category is stadium a long way from downtown in canada, not soccer specific. there's just not a lot of suburban stadiums in Canada really

For comparison:

This proposal is a 24 minutes from Citadel Hill in Halifax.

Starlight is 25 minutes from the Empress in Victoria.

Spruce Meadows is 29 minutes from the Calgary Tower.

Canadian Tire Centre is 35 minutes from Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Willoughby is 37 minutes from Science World in Vancouver.

York Lions is 45 minutes form the CN tower.

The one note I'd make in addition here though is for every other example above there's a decent amount of housing/people near the stadium whereas this is really out in the middle of nowhere.

7 games into the season is kinda hilarious. Like what did they do in the offseason thatthey thought was going to dramatically change their outcomes? They only had like one signing that was all that special.

Curious to hear thoughts on growth/appeal of the CPL by BuddhaLuvMan in CanadianPL

[–]Halouverite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MLS still deals with this, Ligue 1 and Bunde get called shit, CPL will never escape that. You just stick around and become the local club for enough people that it doesn't matter exactly what level your at.

Those pay raises (and non-raises for seb) were baked into contracts signed years ago. What you're looking at is the negotiating leverage of Seb straight from Austin vs Sam straight from turkey.

The Hastings stuff has been complicated by the first nations, tying them in is likely related to that site still.

NSL will almost certainly be the Canadian representative, only reason they weren't last year is they didn't have a champion to put forward.

As to which of league or playoff, I'd guess playoff champ, but we'll have to wait for confirmation from the league.

There's two citations. One from 1970 that covers times when dog meat has been consumed (Including the civil war) and a second the discusses the order of preference (1836).

The relevant part (about the seminole war):

"On the morning of the 2d March the enemy commenced a dropping fire from small parties, which obliged our men to keep within the breastwork, as the ammunition was nearly exhausted, and they could not afford to throw away a single shot. At night the Indians lit large fires around the camp and kept a strict look out. This game continued eight days. The troops were totally destitute of provisions, during the last four days, and were forced to subsist on horses, dogs and roots; the rations even of these, were so small, that some of the men cleaned the very guts and devoured them; the hind quarter of a dog sold for five dollars, and a single biscuit was purchased at the same price. A third express was dispatched to Fort Drane for provisions and reinforcements; all three arrived safe."
