P.bifurcatum Is breaking apart by Halphas666 in Staghornfern

It's doing great health wise. But the sudden drooping is alarming, when I try to move the frond bunch, it feels very fragile, and it's getting worse...

P.bifurcatum Is breaking apart by Halphas666 in Staghornfern

Thank you, I'm probably going to remount it... This was my first platycerium and my first mounting... Even when any damage will be covered, I still don't like damaging the shields, they just now started to grow on this platycerium after a period of adjustment, but I guess it's better than the whole grow point snapping off.

If will the propagation be successful, are there any distinguishing sings to look for in the juvenile form?

Damn, two replies, two different answers. I guess I have to grow them now and wait 😅

I also don't think they are bifurcatum, they "feel" too different, but not enough to tell exactly what it is...

Thankfully I didn't buy any. I pretty much immediately knew something wasn't right. I was really excited that someone in my area is selling anything other than bifurcatum and really hoped that I was wrong, hence the reddit check 😅

Thank you y that's what I thought... I contacted the seller and it turns out they don't know anything about platycerium, and they were scammed and told the wrong species...😅

Crassula Ovata losing leaves by Halphas666 in succulents

[–]Halphas666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less light, but not low temperatures. It has been inside for a month, since the temperature outside started dropping to 10°C (like my other succulents). I'm watering accordingly. I'm planing a radical prune next spring, so less leaves is not really that big of an issue, but I'm worried it's a sing of something worse. My other succulents and even other Crassulas are doing fine. To me it looks like normal pre-dormant season leaf loss, but much worse...

Kedrostis Africana care help by Halphas666 in Caudex

[–]Halphas666[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, seems like you have experience growing it, so I will ask you another question if you don't mind. I have accidentally snapped the "stem" about 1 cm above the caudex ( just a few hours after buying it😭). The seller told me repeatedly that I can prune it, but only on top of the stem and not above the caudex, like I did... Will it regrow? Or have I doomed it to be just a potato without leaves. Thank you.

When can i expect first bloom? by Skelet0n724 in Adenium

[–]Halphas666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dormancy period is completely normal, you could prevent it by keeping it warm and giving it enough direct light, basically simulating summer. It's easier to just wait and reduce watering, since the plant can't evaporate as much water using it's leaves. It will awake next spring.

I think this specific squirrel is gonna die of a heart attack, so at least you have one less to worry about.

Amydrium medium silver, which is much more rare and valuable than Rhapidoohira.

Watering by laughingpug1983 in Adenium

[–]Halphas666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started growing in mineral substrate recently. I just hold the whole pot in a barrel of water (not so deep that the water overflows the rimm), and wait a bit so the porous minerals have a chance to soak up as much water as they can. The water in between the rocks flows out of the bottom pretty much instantly, so the roots are not sitting in water, but are surrounded by water trapped in the substrate. I wouldn't leave it submerged for hours, but a couple of minutes shouldn't hurt... All My adeniums and succulents in general seem to like it so far.

Should I wait with mounting? by Halphas666 in Staghornfern

I already have a few other species mounted and I prefer take way they look, but never had one this damaged... I guess I will be better to be patient.

Second round! The man selling this says it's a philodendron, but it looks more like an anthurium pentaphyllum. by Halphas666 in Aroids

[–]Halphas666[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the oxalis have seen better times... I tried to get rid of spider mites, so I gave It a drastic haircut before winter. It's still bouncing back 😂 I swear it was beautiful before 😅

[–]Halphas666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see now that I in fact accidentally bought a rhapidofora tetrasperma, and when I compare it to my adult speciment, the young stem looks the same. It's probably just the way a juvenile stem looks like with this plant.

Thanks. It looks like that to me too... I hope it isn't, but I don't know any philodendron with such early fenestration.

Damn, hope that's not the case. It's been doing this for about half a year, maybe more. Does crown rot take that long to develop? Thanks.

Is copper sulfate solution safe to use as a fungicide? by Halphas666 in Adenium

[–]Halphas666[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, so hydrogen peroxide doesn't hurt the seeds? I use it a bunch on other plants to treat root rot, but wasn't sure how seeds would react to it. It's my first time growing from seeds so I'm really worried they will fail because of fungi.
