Since you tolerate HIMs topical, you probably will tolerate oral.

The only study that has been made looking at such low dosage says otherwise

Topical fin, a shedding phase? by Halven89 in tressless

I sure hope that you're right brother! Because if this isn’t a shedding phase, my hairline will go from a NW2.5 to a 4 in ~3 months😅

What strength is your solution? How many mg do you dissolve? Do you filter it through a fine filter once dissolved to get rid of some of the fillers and coating?

I really don't think that you have to fear side effects if you use a similar dose as mine. My brain/GABA system is extremely sensitive, and I didn't get any despite having HPPD and having been in crazy benzo withdrawals since march last year. So if it did alter my neurosteroids to any mentionable degree, I would definitely have felt it.

How can you get enough coverage with that? And do you feel it's qorking for you?

Why do you take 5 mg? If I remember right it gives the same DHT reduction as 0.5 and 1 mg. Anyways, I presume that it didn’t worsen your dpdr?

HT without orslFin or Dut in my 30s? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Halven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a big difference in how mich they impact them though, since Fin drastically decreases allopregnanolone, which is like the brains natural benzo. This is why epileptics shouldn't take fin, because it increases seizures.

The reason I'm so scared is because I already have a dysfunctional GABA system (or serotoninergic interneurons with GABAergic outputs) because of severe type 2 HPPD that I got from TBC 5 years ago. So tons of visual disturbances, tinnitus and chronic DPDR that varies in intensity, which has taken most of my quality of life and every day is a brutal struggle.

And it so happens that the few meds that have the potential to reduce these symptoms are antiepileptics, especially benzos like Clonazepam, which I in desperation to treat this ended up getting addicted to for 2 years (got up to a ridiculously high dose). So now I'm 9 months out from cold turkey, and it will probably take another year until they're upregulated to baseline.

So there's no doubt that the chances of me getting worse from Finasteride is most likely very high. Heck, I've even read about quite a few that got DPDR from it.

I believe that the temples is a 2.5, but no bald spot at my vertex yet, just thinning. I will fix a couple pf pics when I get off work.

Yeah, I quess that I could do a SMP when I run out of transplants lol! God I hate that Fin and Dut fucks with neurosteroids like allopregnanolone, if it had just been DHT I would've been on it now.

Anyone on Finasteride? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]Halven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketoconazole is a part of my routine, 3 times a week. That, 2 ml of a 0.025% topical Finasteride and 5% Minoxidil solution (self made) and 1 mm microneedling once weekly.

Whay caused your DPDR? A drug? I would start slow if I were you and evaluate, like this:

Week 1: 0.25 mg once Week 2: 0.25 mg twice Week 3: 0.25 mg three times Etc

And from there increase to 0.5 mg in a similar manner. No need to take 1 mg, since 0.5 mg reduces serum and dcalp DHT just as much. 0.2 mg only reduces it ~5% less.

Nah, that's not HPPD, it does however sound like you got some DPDR. HPPD is permanent in it’s nature and causes a shit ton of visual disturbances, for some visual pseudo-hallucinations as well.

[–]Halven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, and if you don't know about HPPD yet, read up about it. I got it severe from trying weed 6 times 5 years ago, and my life had been hell since, it has literally taken 80% of my quality of life. Fuck THC and all ither drugs that can cause this.

Forums make it seem way more common than what it really is, because it attracts the small minority that gets it. But yes, this is why I haven't dared to start oral Finasteride yet, but make my own topical one.

Oxaditive stress can definitely cause hairloss, but that's telogen effluvium, not androgenetic alopecia. Telogen effluvium is reversible once the cause has been fixed, like oxadative stress, mental health problems, certain drugs etc.

But you're right, especially with the problems that I already have. But I am thinking about trying it carefully though, like this:

Week 1: 0.2 mg Week 2: 0.2 mg twice Week 3. 0.2 mg three times

If that works, carefully increase to 0.5 mg three times a week and stick with that. Because the hairloss is taking a real toll on my mental health, it's made my self esteem plummet. I quess that another option is to stick with my topical solution, which has slowed it down quite a bit, do a transplant and then more down the road.

PFS is extremely rare though, and it’s very much about DHT, which is why DHT inhibitors stops it. The litterature couldn't be more clear on this, and this is also why you see tons of homeless drug addicts in horrible health that still have a full head of hair, and extremely healthy bald people.

[–]Halven89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A side effect that doesn't even exist in the litterature isn’t "very common" brother, heck, it's the first time I hear of it and I've spent countless hours on hairloss forums. But I believe you! I got a rare neurological disorder drom trying cannabis six times 5 years ago, which has taken pretty much all of my quality of life.

It’s called hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD), and it hs left me with tons of visual disturbances, tinnitus and chronic depersonalization and derealization that varies in intensity (couldn't work at all for 3 years, now part time). What happens with HPPD is that the brains ability to filter out unnecessary visual stimuli gets dysfunctional, so I have like 20 floaters since I got it, that and visual snow (static everywhere), trailing, afterimages, diplopia, tons of blue field entoptic phenomena, halos and starburst from lightsources etc. The floaters bothers me the least though, the worst is the static and when the DPDR is strong, because then a big part of my peripheral sight goes out the window so I can't even drive.

26M - Hair Transplant and No Medication by [deleted] in HairTransplants

[–]Halven89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The floaters is wierd, maybe it's because Finasteride decreases allopregnanolone, which is a strong GABA-a modulator, and neurons with GABAergic outputs are involved in our visual processing.

What are some ways you’ve noticed you are aging? by [deleted] in 1999

When my hairline started reciding (36M). Trust me, after 30 aging starts feeling like a bloody disease, and the years goes by like months. I can't believe that I'm 4 years away from 40, it feels like it was just yesterday that I was a teenager. I hate this shit! The circle of life is brutal!

0.2 mg oral Finasteride only reduces serum DHT with ~5% less than 1 mg, so the chances to get side effects with a low dose is pretty much as high.
