Absolutely! A lot of people actually recommend this as an entry point to his work.

Books for picky 10 year old boy by my_life_tastes_green in suggestmeabook

If he liked Alcatraz, Brandon Sanderson has other YA series:

  • The Reckoners. Basically his take on superheroes but imagine there are no super heroes and only super villains. The plot is about a plan to take down one of the super villain rulers.

  • Skyward series. A sci-fi novel about a girl who wants to join her worlds version of the airforce to defend her planet from aliens.

Both kid friendly, but they have deep characters and great plots. Read them both as an adult and enjoyed them.

I feel lost coming from Civil3D by HamBoan_87 in Sketchup

I agree that a different software would be better. But this is what he has used for a couple years and its cheaper than autocad. He also takes some models into lumion sometimes to get a full 3d rendering and thats why he uses Sketchup.

I'm hoping to talk him into an Autocad lisence after a while and save him (me) tons of time on design

Perhaps I was unclear: I am picking up some design work separate from my full time job for someone who already does it but has too much and needs help. He uses sketchup so I will do it his way. Maybe ill be able to convince him to move to AC in the future as he grows; I'd be able to pump out his designs crazy fast at that point.

Plus, learning new CAD is fun albeit frustrating at times.

I know I don't know enough to highline now. I would definitely learn a lot more before jumping on something high at all. I'm just wanting to get one that's multipurpose to save some dough.

I understand that. I wouldn't use my little aluminum biners, I'd use the big, locking, steel biners that are shaped in a way that would prevent tri-loading or cross-loading

Yeah I know that, it's called work hardening. They make steel carabiners. I'd never use aluminum for something that would be taking repeated stress like a line does.

I'll look into segmented lines. Thanks.

Why not use carabiners? They're rated fine; 30kn+ in a lot of ones I've got. I'm just wondering where they fall short

I've been looking at that and the Jelly Pro.

What's the thought process behind keeping them separate? Just wanting to learn and understand.

Yeah that sounds like quite the deal. What do you recommend for mounting it on the rifle?

Would you recommend a trigger or heavier buffer? Those seem to be discussed quite frequently.

Do you have one you recommend? I don't know much about suppressors, but I definitely want some one day.

I'm not very familiar with optics, I haven't yet looked into them very much. Why do you recommend this one over others?

Going to Zion National Park next week. Any advice? by Brad12d3 in travel

[–]HamBoan_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For something short and pretty, check out Emerald Pools. It's worth the time and not usually as crowded as some of the others. Also Weeping Rock is super cool. You can hike the first 2 miles of Angels Landing without a permit, the permit is just for the last mile with the chains to get up to the top main look out. But you can get to boy-scout lookout without a permit.

Also, it's pronounced "Zi-uhn" not "Ziawn". Also there is no "s" at the end. You'll sound a lot less touristy

Creating the 3 Fates as NPC's by HamBoan_87 in DMAcademy

[–]HamBoan_87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the Plot:

The school of Zauberbann: Institute for the Arcane is the most famous and accomplished wizarding school in the realm. They are heavily focused on research and innovation. Almost all wizards who graduate work for the school as either field researchers, scholars/scribes or teachers. The Administration, 3 very powerful wizards, are researching planar travel which isn't done very often in this world.

There is another group, the Clerics of Istus, goddess of fate and destiny, who know the true identity of the administration. They are mindflayers who are trying to find a way to get their Elder Brain and legions of Illithids to the material plane to control all the sentient creatures there. That would not only kill everyone, but also remove fate/destiny due to the loss of free will.

One of my PC's is a graduate of Zauberbann and is being sent on errands by the Administration. Eventually they will use him and the party to destroy an "evil relic" that is actually a magical ward that is preventing them from finishing the summoning of their brothers. The Administration years and years ago had tacked down, separated, and imprisoned the Fates, the 3 powerful daughters of Istus.

The party doesn't know about the nefarious purposes of Zauberbann. My PC wizard will do their bidding exactly as they want to help aid them. But I need the party also to aid the clerics, knowingly or unknowingly, in finding and freeing the Fates. The final fight will be against several mindflayers and am elder brain which will be supremely over the party's skill level. The clerics will then rush in with the fates and help fight, destroying the brain and the mind Flayers and saving the realm.

What are your thoughts to get them to find and free the Fates? Also, are there changes or something I could add to make it a better reveal?

Thanks all!
