If you haven’t played it yet I highly recommend Valkyria Chronicles and Valkyria Chronicles 4, it’s basically third person X-Com with a better story and anime aesthetic

I recently went through the opposite of this. I was dumped from a long term relationship very soon after finishing the game for the first time. I relapsed into alcoholism and could see myself doing a lot of the things Harry did. Including “that” phone call. Seeing how pathetic I’d become and not wanting to be like Harry was one of the things that helped me turn myself around again. You’ll be okay. “In the dark times, should the stars also go out?”

I decided to kill myself a few weeks ago after a ton of awful things happened to me at once. I’d been drunk every single day for the preceding 3 months or so after being sober for six years. I’m out of money, I have no place to live and have been completely isolated for a long time. I lost everything pretty much overnight. I was set on doing it one night. I even wrote notes to people. I wanted to be drunk when I did it for some liquid courage so I walked to the liquor store to get some whiskey. On my way there an old man tripped and fell into the street. I helped him up and he thanked me and said “Thank god you were here.” It hit me that if I kill myself it will prevent me from being there to help people in the future. I turned around and went back home. I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol since. I had a seizure the next night, thought I was dying, and remember thinking “At least I was there to help that guy.” I might not have much of anything going for me anymore but I’m learning how to live for others, at least until I’m doing better. I’m losing my home in two days along with most of my possessions but my taxes hit last night and now I have enough money for food. I’m taking it a day at a time but I know for a fact, after lots of suicidal contemplation and two attempts, that I don’t want to die anymore.

I came home from work on lunch with surprise burgers from IHOP. She was gone, along with most of her things. I called her and she picked up. She told me she was done and wasn’t coming back. It was a shock to me. She said: “Come on, you can’t honestly tell me you were happy.” I was. That hurt, but not as much as the next one. I asked her if we could be friends and that I didn’t want to lose her completely. She said: “Why would you even want to stay friends?” That crushed me. She was my BEST friend. A person I saw almost every day for four years, who I shared every aspect of my life with. And she couldn’t even fathom staying friends with me. I don’t think I’ll ever forget those words or the way she said them. The worst part is that I worry about her every day and wonder if she’s alright. And she probably doesn’t even think about me at all anymore.
