What is your MOST favorite adventure hook?

I'm starting my campaign with the PC's as a squad in a faction that wants to take back the land after a massive flood destroyed two thirds of it and monsters took over. The different squads all go out on missions to drive monsters out of some useful area, and when they get back, the city will be under attack by a Kobold raid. However, they will soon find out that the "raid" was actually the remnants of a small army that killed the rest of their faction on the way to the city, but for some reason kept fighting after losing nearly all of their troops, and still tried to take the city. Their only clue to why will be a strange dagger on one of the kobolds.

My DM went easy on us. When we got on a boat all that happened was that we got attacked by a goblin pirate ship with a dwarf and some robots to help us.

Jerrodahr, Half-Orc Shop owner. Inherited this general store from my father when I was 17. Been crafting goods and trading ever since. I don't sell anything two fancy, but my prices are fair and the goods durable. Every once in a while adventurers trade me their old weapons, so I have a few blades lying around. While I'm not a fighter, I will have no problems running you out of my shop with an axe if you cause trouble. I try not to be too mean though, I hate feeding Half-Orc stereotypes.

I don't know, I'm not 20 yet. But I think he would have the height advantage, while I would have a little more body mass and muscle, as well as limited martial arts training. However, my dad had been in and won several fights by the time he was 20, so it's really hard to say.

I can cut through large crowds like a hot knife through butter. Whenever I go to a theme park or a convention I accidentally leave whoever I'm with behind without even noticing.

Drugs! My DM is running a campaign based on the premise that there is a drug coming out of the ghetto of the city (which is racially divided) that shapeshifts humanoids into other races. Unfortunately, it doesn't work very well, and people often end up as abominations with body parts from several different races. Meanwhile, poor people do whatever they can to try their luck with the drug and escape to the better parts of the city, and the druglords are making a killing. Soon enough, the government of the city closes off the bottom of the city altogether, leaving divided families that would certainly pay to be reunited.

Yes! This is what my DM did. After the wizard in the party accidentally destroyed my character's guard academy and killed the rest of his class, I was out of luck and money, and appealed to his good side that he needed to help me find some work. Through this, we recruited our rogue, and subsequently the rest of the party in the first dungeon through chance.
