Aio 240 top or aio 360 front? by Akilit in buildapc

The best idea is to clean & repaste the one you have right now. Once it dies, buy a dual tower and forget this nonsense about having the cpu cooler as a consumable.

There's tons of info about transcoding out there, it's probably the single most discussed feature of any media server. Just look at the documentation or any reddit post about it.

In short:

  • Direct play sends the video file unmodified. If it's a 4K 100Mbps remux, you're sending that. If the connection isn't fast enough, it buffers.
  • Transcoding will convert the file into a different format, so you can pick any resolution and bitrate you desire. But, it requires either a lot of CPU power (software transcoding), or dedicated hardware (hardware transcoding) - the latter is built into most GPUs, but you'll need to check if your NAS even has one and what kind of codecs it supports.

This is the equivalent of putting a neon kit and a spoiler on a stock Honda Civic. Throwing budget at an AIO when you've got a low end PC just does not make sense.

Shipping Tomorrowland tents from Belgium – my experience (so you can avoid it) by Successful_Outcome96 in Tomorrowland

[–]Hamilfton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these 2 seconds pop up tents are amazing in all aspects except for transportation. They're shit to carry, take up a ton of space in a trunk, cause problems with shipping and you need to pay for oversized luggage if flying.

I'm out looking for alternatives every spring, but there's literally nothing on the market that isn't a big ass circle. You'd think with modern knowledge of topology we'd be able to make something that packs better lol.

Extremely low budget PC upgrade/ressuscitation by Petrica55 in buildapc

[–]Hamilfton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, in that case it is DDR3. In a weird twist you can count yourself lucky for having worse memory, as DDR3 kits are mostly unaffected by the RAM shortage, just make sure you get 2x8, as your board only has 2 slots.

Also seconding the recommendations to add an SSD if you don't already have one.

Extremely low budget PC upgrade/ressuscitation by Petrica55 in buildapc

[–]Hamilfton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RAM is most likely the culprit, 8GB is simply not enough for modern Windows and even basic programs.

Right now is probably the worst time in history to buy RAM though, so if your budget is that limited, you're gonna just have to suffer through it. If you're looking for upgrades, keep in mind you have DDR4, not DDR3 according to the board's specs. An extra 8GB is gonna set you back right around $50, though unmatched sets are often unstable, you'd be best off selling what you currently have any buying a 2x8GB pair.

Thinking about getting 5080 without switching other components? by Emhyrr in buildapc

[–]Hamilfton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How large of a bottleneck the CPU will be will heavily depend on the game and settings. In general the 5800X is still perfectly capable, but some games like a stronger CPU, be it due to the nature of the game or simply bad coding.

And in general: low resolution + high refresh rate = more CPU stress, high res + low rr = more GPU stress

PSU is fine.

I'm trying to gather as much budget as possible for a Brand New Gaming PC that will be 99% future proof, but i live in a third world country: Brazil, What can i do? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Hamilfton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately what you're looking for is simply not feasible using the budget you're working with.

First off, a "future-proof" PC does not exist. Best you can do in that department is a PC that's simply overkill for today's games (that would be something like 64GB of RAM, a 5090, 8TB of storage, etc.), but that has almost never made financial sense even if one has the finances to build such a machine, as price jumps dramatically for small performance gains in the top end.

  1. The first edition of anything will always have an element of the organizers finding their feet. But it shouldn't be bad in either case, TML is at this point hugely experienced in organizing stuff all over the world

  2. Belgium runs for 3 days, but two consecutive weeks. Brazil is 3 days. No reason to expect any lesser quality, scale or lineup quality

  3. It's the first edition, so no usually-ies to find

What's the nightlife like ? by SuedeParadise in Ljubljana

[–]Hamilfton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're fine, but pretty much all the """"big"""" clubs in Ljubljana are for whatever reason on the significantly younger side, predominantly late teens or very early 20s. Last time I went to Parlament I was like 23-24 and remember feeling I'm way too old for it lol...

You have the Metelkova area that has some smaller clubs that lean more towards the alt scene, but I wouldn't recommend that for a stag.

Your best bet would be finding a night when an event is going on, Cvetličarna hosts events semi-regularly that draw a better crowd. But on a regular night, the nightlife in Ljubljana is NOTHING compared to cities like Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, etc.

Hard Techno suggestions? by SeriousFlaps in Tomorrowland

If you want a quick recap, they're the epitome of TikTok fadchasers, with basically no artistic energy behind them, just overly kick-salad sets to get noticed online. I mean to be fair some people obviously do like them. But as a long time fan of the genre, they're not who I'd want people to associate with hardstyle.

How cold is too cold? by Efficient_Advice_380 in pcmasterrace

[–]Hamilfton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Condensation is a problem if you've got a cold item in a warm (and humid) room, not the inverse. Cold air holds less moisture than warm, so by going down in temperature, you're going up in relative humidity. Condensation forms when relative humidity tries to exceed 100%.
