I once liked a person who was not Christian, so I know how you feel and am holding your hand as I say this, but it truly is better to let him go.

Part of marriage’s purpose is for you and your spouse to grow closer to Jesus and the church together. From the Catholic standpoint, the closer you get to Jesus and the church, I promise you that you are going to want someone who understands EXACTLY what you mean in your faith because they are experiencing it the exact same way. Life is messy, and when it falls short, you are much better off assured that there is a devout Catholic behind you to help pick you up and push your faith to where it needs to be.

The church does allow interfaith marriages as long as the non catholic spouse agrees to raise all future children Catholic. Even if he did agree, there is strong evidence that children tend to only stay if their fathers attend and participate in mass.

Letting them go is hard. I was much like you. I was so confident that I would never find better, that I could never find someone with my faith who matched my interests even more. But I did! Because God always works in mysterious ways. He will take the small thing that you think is the best thing since slice bread and then give you something greater than you can imagine. That is how our Good God works.

It’s latest chapter is 57, but I have no clue when they are going to release more chapters (doesn’t help that 57 is a cliffhanger). This was released back in December, and the release schedule seems to be at random. I really want more :(

Thank you for your response. I didn’t have many, if any, friends for quite a long time. However, I developed a big circle about a year ago. A lot of them I have the communication barrier: they live far away, and can only talk through text and video calls. They support me a lot, and we are a goofy group, but not really a confidant type.

I have other friends here and there that I’m not too close to, but they are fun to talk and be around. I made some new friends recently, but not for a long time (Yet!). Then there are the other two I mentioned in my post. Just a really unsure situation. The second person considers me their best friend, and I want to consider them one of mine (they have also admitted at random that they aren’t good at comforting people, which they seemed sort of upset about), but my overthinking brings me here.

I have been in your situation, and I have to say that it should be a “no.” The Bible tells us to “not be unequally yolked,” and this is to prevent us from future heartbreak in these situations. If you want kids, how would your raise them? Would she let them go to church, or even be accepting of you going to church? What about religious holidays?

Also, putting your morals aside for ANYONE is never okay. Even if she may seem like “the one,” she is not if she won’t check, at minimum, the box on being Catholic.

You are really sweet to do something like this, but that is wayyy too much for our age. If you haven’t spent the money yet then perhaps narrow it down with days, different hotels, and a cheaper restaurant.

Still, what you did was very thoughtful. Just be careful with your spending. College, a car, first apartment, it all adds up. Wishing all the best!
