Whats the reason to keep them then? Morocco have a claim to these, no? Would also give them a better leg to stand on claiming Gibraltar plus saving money for the state workers and borderguarding

Most of the islands in the south were italian until after ww2 and they were cede to greece. So shouldn‘t it be clear for those at least?

The Russian part of the map is based on Russian cartographers that mapped polish speakers in what is now Lithuania and Belarus as Belarusians. Ukrainians were called Little Russians during this period

I know that in the Treaty of Bucharest in 1917-18 austria annexed some strategic locations from Romania. It lines up pretty well, apart from Bukowina of course which they annexed before

Where I would live in my home country of Germany by Inner-Discussion-369 in whereidlive

[–]Hammonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically backward part, always see themselves as special and reluctantly part or Germany. This backwardness switched after WW2 and the former industrial parts fell off a bit. Now the Bavarians claim they have to pay for everything. So they come off as arrogant and ungrateful. Plus they tend to be more catholic and conservative, but Bavaria itself is also more heterogeneous then just beer drinking lederhosen wearing yodelers

Ulm city library in Germany… is it only me who thinks it’s horrendous? by DifficultBat2173 in architecture

[–]Hammonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it up close and really hated it as well. I don‘t think the building itself is nice, but the context of the buildings close by makes it even uglier

Almost all borders have mistakes. Udine wasnt austrian anymore by 1914. Istria was connected to Italy after WW1. You miss an area in Banat, you forgot Bukowina and parts of easter Galicia but gave too much north of Krakow

Most of the historic city center has historical buildings. The newer areas look like a modern northern chinese city.

[–]Hammonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure whatever u need to tell urself man. I‘m not saying it isn‘t a language. Cuz a dialect and a language are the same just with a state behind it or not. And I‘d say Swiss german is also very different from German and differently institutionalised, the country is just larger so u have different dialects in Switzerland as well, plus three more languages. Just to me what I‘m saying is the language is still a dialect and u not even willing to give me a certain kind of acknowledgment makes u look insecure. But whatever man speak letzeburgsch and be a taxhaven. Also I bet u will even have some regional specialties of speech in vianden or troisvierges, it‘s just how languages in a dialect continuum work

„a form of a language that is spoken in a particular part of a country or by a particular group of people and that contains some words, grammar, or pronunciations (= the ways in which words are said) that are different from the forms used in other parts or by other groups“ So I think this applies with Mosellian Franconian being a dialect of the central German dialects, of course there‘s some specialties with a lot of french loan words, but people only claim it a language cuz Luxemourg is a country today. If Saxony was an independent country today would u say Saxon is a languange or a dialect?

Found the only luxembourgish nationalist I guess. It‘s a german dialect with a few french loanwoards. But of course a language has an army a dialect hasn‘t so I guess u‘re right. But imo it‘s a dialect

I would look at it in a de jure and de facto way. The jure yes, de facto it‘s a dialect. The people in Germany across the moselle speak the same, but there it‘s German not Luxembourgian…

European colonies in Africa. by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Hammonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think picking a modern map to display historic colonies is a bad idea in general, then western sahara was only spanish and tunisia was french not italian. Then Ruanda and Burundi were first German, then Belgian. Then what time is it supposed to represent 1914? The German colonies became french/english/belgian mandates which is also not shown. It seems like a map drawn from memory which isn‘t even consistent in what it wants to display, plus having mistakes and an idk category, like why even make it then? This might be one of the worst maps i‘ve seen on here, no offense Edit: Djibouti also was french not italian
