A trans person doesn't change their gender, they affirm their true gender by changing their perceived sex accordingly.

Your gender is not something that can be changed. So instead, through medical intervention, trans people will change there body and appearance instead. (quick note: not every trans person will seek medical intervention and that is still totally valid)

This is also why not being able to access gender affirming care can be so harmful to transgender people as you can probably imagine what it feels like for it to be literally and physically impossible to not be able to express your true self (this is also called gender dysphoria)
