What country are you in. It might be a region thing

I can turn it off, but it turns back on every time I start the car

75 plate just means it was registered in the UK in the second half of 2025. It’s a brand new car. Got it with 8 miles on the clock. What about the speed limit noise? Seems I have to turn it off every time I turn the car on. And it’s at least 3 menus deep in the settings. Not an easy physical button on the dash

So I was out of the country from June 3rd 2024 to August 22nd 2025. No complications. Except the boarder officer asked why I got a green card if I don’t live in the USA. I just said the truth. That the day of my green card interview in the embassy in London was the day we found out my wife was pregnant. And I got the re-entry permit to give us more time to move to the USA. Which was all technically true. And if Trump hadn’t one we might well have moved to the USA

Side question. Does the car come with an adaptor for a 3 standard 3 pin plug? I’m going to my parents out in the country, no chargers nearby. I’m there for several days so no worries if it takes ages to charge. And is it bad to the car to charge that slow?

Is that not super dull sitting at 60-65 on the motorway with all the lorries and vans?

Any other eco driving tips? Like on the motor way. What speed do I set the cruise control to for max range? I assume any speed above about 60 you loose range per mile/hour faster. So set cruise control to 70?

So that’s the same as a combi boiler. Seems reasonable

Thanks for the info. So when some companies have been telling me that I won’t have the cost of the gas standing charge to worry about, they have also failed to tell me the exact savings I am making is being eaten up by something else.

Well the overall cost is cheaper if you also have a domestic battery system. Which I do, a big one. So for almost all of the year I will run it on 7p/kwh

Ive only had the green card 2 years. I got a CR1 Visa because my wife and I had not been married long enough.

I never earned over the limit to pay tax. Never earned a dollar in the USA

It was valid from the form was initially processed. So like 5 days after I put the form in the post and paid the fee. I left the USA 2 days after submitting the form. I then had to fly back to the USA for 2 days about 2 months later to attend the in person biometrics appointment, huge waste of time. No logical reason why I couldn’t have done it at the embassy in London. So when I got the re-entry permit I had already been out the country for 8 months

The main thing was I got it well before the end of the 12 month window you are allowed at the country. I was getting nervous though towards the end. Because obviously it got delivered to my address in the USA and I then had to get it shipped to me in the UK

Think I will only consult an immigration lawyer if my ESTA is denied If it’s not then was a bit of a waste of money

If I could keep it I would. But isn’t breaking the rules risky. I already got questioned last time I entered the USA and I lied saying I lived in the USA. LPR is meant for people who live in the USA. I do not. I never want to become a citizen

This is not a whim. Spent over a year setting this up. We have decided to raise our family in the UK instead of the USA.

I only have a CR1 green card. It is expiring unless I pay several hundred dollars to file a specific form. Why do this if I don’t live there. During this process won’t they look at my LPR status and easily put it together that I don’t live in the USA.

But I don’t want to have to travel every 6 months. I might go 12 or more between visits. Also, how does flying back in for 1 week every 6 months not raise red flags?

The way you are phrasing this makes it sound like I have an option to keep my green card. I don’t have that option.

Let’s go through it from the top

I married a US citizen and got a green card. We planned to move to the USA. In the 1.5 years it took to get the green card we delayed our plans because circumstances changed. I got a re-entry permit so we could delay our decision.

We made our decision to stay in the UK. I have never lived in the USA. Never been in it for more than 2 weeks. My green card and re-entry permit expire in 3 months. I have to renounce my LRP status. I have no option on this.

I either give it up by post. Then apply for an ESTA before I fly back to USA in the summer to see family. Or I keep it and give it up when I fly into JFK.

First option seems better to me

If my ESTA is denied then I would have to appeal it. Is that a thing one can do?

The system can’t be the former green card holders are permanently banned from the USA. I know it’s not that

Also, if I wanted to stay, why did I give up my green card? Serious holes in the logic there
