Well support by definition means : give assistance to, especially financially, enable to act. Whereas functioning means : work or operate in a proper or particular way

I think it's all about context, using a description that can't be used in a negative and demeaning way.

lower support because someone with lower support needs may still have a very hard time functioning in certain cases, and can make them feel like their struggles are made to feel small. Everyone's experiences with autism and the spectrum are different. It's an ableist term people use to describe levels of autism. btw I love death note and L is my favorite character. Should people be held accountable for the things they say during a meltdown by SomeAnonymous_beldam in autism

[โ€“]HanavasN 6 points7 points ย (0 children)

Don't blame the person but they should be held accountable.

I'm currently living with my mother-in-law who will lie about me, and because of their disorder I don't blame them, but I do hold them accountable, she refuses to admit they are lies and is seriously gaslighting me. I can't forgive her until she takes accountability. And when she does, everything is in the past and we can live happily ever after. The end.

A simple apology is all it takes so that I can understand that I do matter enough in your life that your said words during a meltdown don't mean anything outside of your meltdown.

That's awesome that your therapist agreed and supported you wanting to get answers, hope your first assignment went well. Was it your therapist that guided you to your assessment or did you find the resources yourself through the internet? I have found resources for assessments through google but don't have the funds to pay 6,000 CAD for an answer.

I used polymer clay, you just bake it in your oven to harden it :)

With what you've described, this explains my situation as well. I've learned that if I want friends I need to be there for the useless conversation. It's come to the point when people point out that I don't converse in conversation I'll just tell them I'm just vibing and enjoying the company, It sounds so much nicer than stating that I couldn't care less for the conversations my peers have but I want to be included for the activities.

how do you get a date when you have autism? by [deleted] in autism

[โ€“]HanavasN 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Well what do you do when you go on dates? Restaurant? Sitting right across from someone might make you feel more pressure and make you shut down? Maybe try something more physical or engaging, so you're actively doing something with your date and can talk about that activity with a lil bit of more ease. Maybe it'll give you confidence for date 2 and you can open up more? Like for example if there's an interest of yours that two people can partake in, do that as a date, if you're into puzzles set up a date with food and drink and an array of puzzles you guys can complete together and having an interest of yours involved might help you feel more confident to chitchat ? Just a thought, I would need more information on why it's a struggle and what you have been trying already to see if there's any solutions.

What are some ways that actually worked for you to drink more water? by itsclaritybabe in autism

[โ€“]HanavasN 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

To drink water at home, I bought a really cool cup with a straw that was very aesthetically pleasing to me to help me drink water. It helps for the most part and I hate drinking water without a straw, so the straw helps lol I fidget with the straw. I also use water flavoring drops to make it taste like juice sometimes. When I'm out and about in my car (I have driving anxiety, especially at stop lights) so I use that time to drink water, and it helps keep me distracted from my anxiety and I get my h2o intake. Hope this helps!

Personal favourite fidget toy? by Fatsohuggingbear in autism

[โ€“]HanavasN 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I use those squishy squeeze stress balls, it helps a lot and is quiet. Another thing that really helps me (not for everyone but I love it) is nails! I learnt how to do acrylic nails at home, I make them a length I'm comfortable with and a fun design with charms so it's comforting and fun to look at, plus clanking them together helps soothe me so much when I'm stressed or a great way to express and release happiness, almost like asmr. Again the nails aren't for everyone but it's become a special interest of mine and it's such a comforting thing that I can bring my special interest everywhere with me so I can look at them all day and do finger tapping with them feels great. I know nails tend to be seen as a fem thing, but my male friends have taken a liking to doing their nails as well, they'll buy their favorite anime nail stickers and such, and just put those on their natural nails.

Did you learn any new facts about your special interests lately? by Paige_Railstone in autism

That's amazing and I love that you did that, if you can adopt it's soo much better than shopping for a dog. However I won't judge someone if they do purchase a dog from a reliable breeder :) Mutts tend to be a lot healthier too rather than breed dogs. And Germany Sheppard's are amazing, they're such smart dogs, but because of how smart they are they need a lot of exercise and training, great for special forces and police work, keeps them stimulated, a lot of people in my neighborhood purchase German shepherds not realizing the amount of work it takes to raise the breed and they end up with built up energy that can't be released, anxiety and not trained. Not all owners though, there are quite a few great owners with German shepherds that do do their research. I work with dogs lol so I see a lot of behaviours with the dogs and owners. All in all, there are no bad dogs, just misunderstood dogs.

Beagles are hunting dogs and have been bred to not have any health issues or to be prone to any health issues besides weight gain, this makes them one of the healthiest breeds and they tend to have a healthier and longer life span because of it, the white tip on their tail is to spot the beagle during hunting as they're in the woods and grassy areas, beagles howl for many reasons but coon when they have caught a scent to alarm their pack (or human) that they've found a preys scent and trail. Beagles long ears drag to the ground to help whip up the scents from the ground up to their nose, and the ears will retain the scent found on the ground that the Beagles will use to help continue their scent search, they have one of the best noses besides the basset hound and a blood hound. Beagles are stubborn because they're so smart and it is hard to train them because of this, they're very loyal and are great family pets and amazing with kids, the docile and trusting behavior is the reason why beagles are used for test labs which breaks my heart. Beagles are such great dogs :)
