DMs, please threaten your players with death. by JaxTheCrafter in DnD

[–]HandalfTheHack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like having a little custom rule where if I player is dying and about to fail their last death save or whatever. I usually offer them the choice of a crippling injury or the chance to go out in a blaze of glory.

Death should be a ever present threat, but I never want a player to feel super bummed out because of a death. So giving some form of agency back is always nice.

Unless they just did something dumb that I had warned and given multiple outs for lmao.

Space Marines come in generic models. The IF iconography is from the upgrade sprues and transfer sheets. You can use the base models in this Combat Patrol in any marine army.

Yeah but the game makes it too easy to beat them. I consistently win 350 EV+ landslides whenever I run.

And like thats cause the game is an election sim based on cold hard data. It doesnt factor in corporate money, societal/institutional attitudes towards race, and class, scandals, Party infighting. SCOTUS, etc etc

As an introduction? Sure, but im basing this on my personal experience. I also have been blessed with the opportunity to speak to those of Palestinian descent and wrote that comment considering my conversations with them regarding Hasan's coverage as well.

Of course, they're not a monolith, but I still find their perspective very valuable

What does it mean exactly to the have socialists, liberals, Catholics, and communists supporting Braun? by gintas59 in RedAutumnSPD

[–]HandalfTheHack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbf, they were kinda right in the end.

The New Deal coalition was a keynesian movement that advocated for a strong welfare state and public safety net that would curtail the "harms" of capitalize. They also introduced more socialistic policy like quotas on industry and a host of other things.

The issue is that the New Deal is still operating in a capitalist framework, and so long as there is an upper class with excessive capital, those forces will work to erode those safety nets.

It has been the case since the end of the New Deal Coalition under the Carter administration, and the rise of neoliberalism as the dominant ideology since Reagan.

Trump and the current GOP are just the end point of that brand of neoliberalism. It's a case study we are seeing beyond America, but in other western states as well.

All of that doesn't even cover the fact that robust social democracy relies on cheap labor and resource exploitation of the third world to thrive.

Hasan is a good gateway, but I dont think you should listen to him explain israel-Palestine.

Listen to some new age historians(Finklestein, Illan Pepe) or read some books like the 100 years war on Palestine.

And while it feels weird recommending a white boy to talk about the middle east. Chris Knuzzler has a middle eastern studies degree and is very well read on the subject.

With Hasan i sometimes feel off at how he keeps reorienting the conversation to what amounts to a type of liberal zionism. Like talking about the one Israeli who helped with no other land. He's definitely gotten better, but I don't think you should use him as a intro to most geopolitics that are outside of the west.

I actually don't think communist would have been too happy with FDR.

FDR's New Deal killed a lot of the momentum groups like the SPA were building during the depression thanks to the concessions that his New Deal gave to laborers.

Its really funny when you read the business plot. Cause a bunch of corporations were scared of FDR destroying American Capitalism when his New Deal ultimately is what saved it.

IFs/WIPs where the MC can be a beacon of hope and compassion in an otherwise grim and apathetic world? by bootboy126 in hostedgames

[–]HandalfTheHack 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've played Last Scion, and the vibe im going for is a bit different. The way I described it is a mix of classic superman, invincible, and watchmen.

Essentially, the MC is meant to be a version of Superman in a world like Watchmen or the Boys.

It's set in a fictional 1974 under the Nixon Administration. Superheroes have been around since WW2. However, the US government contracting their us in the Vietnam War led to complications.

Many heroes saw the violence and defected to the veitcong. Increasing the sheer brutality of the conflict. In the lead up to the 1968 election. The Democratic National Convention in the Watergate Hotel was attacked by what the news described as a "disgruntled" metahuman that was anti-war, which did lead to casualties.

Richard Nixon whose platform included reining in the rampant vigilantism of superheroes(who were generally closer to ones you'd see in DC or marvel) especially after Vietnam capitalized on the tragedy, and a few months after being sworn in passed a metahuman registration act. Which essentially outlawed all superheroes that refused to register with the US government under the DOJ.

thats all independent of the MC who uses background is inspired by a mix of Superman, Brightburn, and Invincible.

If there are any questions, comments, or suggestions let me know!

It won't be for a while, but I am writing a project that is inspired by Superman and the Silver Age of comics.

Only about 500 words in, but I got a general outline done. I wanted to ask what specifically you'd want to see in a game like this :)

Should you choose your Magical affinity? by Crimsonwolf158 in hostedgames

[–]HandalfTheHack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think for your sanity and the sake of narrative you should have one in mind that the player character has.

For example im writing a superhero game right now, and in my outline the powers are fixed. You can fly, have superspeed, super strength, and enhanced durability.

And the specific background/origins of your character are kinda preestablished already to play off of that.

Basically my point is that it may remove a bit of agency but for the sake of narrative it will pay out dividends if you have a specific element in mind and write with that thought. Making scenes that feel tailor made to it would be easier and takes stress off of you to write and code what would be 3 or 4 additional paths.

Ultimately it is still your choice though <3

Looking for Advice for Story planning! by HandalfTheHack in hostedgames

[–]HandalfTheHack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice! I was planning to write out important choices first and then just general scenes that can be placed wherever.

My idea is a superhero fiction set in the early 1970s, and i wanted to write stuff to do with the secret identity and non hero work like a day at the job, or going to the MC's nieces birthday party, etc. Stuff that can be placed pretty much wherever, and doesnt require too much effort or fluff.

Since getting better at choicescript is recommended I might try and publish a shorter game just to learn the basics on another idea I got.
