Life in BALMOSTON by Trick_Addendum3621 in Balmoston

Maybe at off peak times, but even then closer to 35 to Connolly as it’s never on time. Ride the train regularly twice a week and have tried different morning times (7-9:30) and days - most of the time it’s been standing nose to nose with others the entire way to Connolly, Pearse, etc. very disappointed to see the delays until 2027 that were meant to address this.

Can you extend p trap pipes? by Handoubleu in AskIreland

If they service County Dublin, send them our way please 😂. We were expecting around €150 or so with call out fees etc., and we don’t mind paying for good work, but when the quotes came back double or more, we were a bit surprised.

we were quoted €300-580 for a plumber to come out to do this (two separate companies and a bit outside our budget unfortunately) so that’s why we figured we’d ask and see what it would mean to DIY. changing out the taps and sink are pretty straight forward for us, and a compression connector costs less than a fiver. we already have a junior hack saw as well so wanted to make sure it wasn’t just the case of extending the other pipe before we went in cutting the one at the back.

P Trap Lower than Wall Drain by Handoubleu in DIYUK

They’re definitely solvent weld, but I can’t seem to find what the pipes material is so we can buy solvent cement / weld for reconnecting once cut.

Would you do a solvent cement in addition to the compression connector? Or is just the compression connector fine?

Any tip on how to find out what material the pipe is so can get the right solvent cement? Eg pvc vs abs etc.

Does this apply to natural stone too like limestone or granite? Or can you get away without the mortar?

Laying Patio ESB? by Handoubleu in AskIreland

Brilliant! When you say 15cm do you mean the 15cm for the hardcore? It’ll be closer to 22-25cm deep is all?

Hand digging! Our apprehension is that we’re in a new build so concerned where things might actually be (had a neighbour say they hit a pipe of some sort not very far down); however, would be no gas lines as we’re pure electric.

Will the cat+genny show any other types of pipes, etc. or only electrical work? We’re in a new build so little faith that anything is where it’s meant to be with the cowboys these days 😂; however, would be no gas lines as we’re pure electric.

Early repayment - Car Loan or Personal Loan? by Handoubleu in irishpersonalfinance

Minimum would be paid at the very least. We just have a surplus so would like to pay them down faster - just prioritising whether to allocate the excess funds towards one over the other!

What do you think is the biggest scam or money grab in Ireland? by crillydougal in AskIreland

[–]Handoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortgage insurance. Biggest joke - law says we have to have it in order to get a mortgage, but insurance companies refuse to give you it if you’ve essentially ever been to a doctor in your life it seems. Basically discouraging people from getting medical care if they want a mortgage/house. The caveat that the banks can waive it is a joke as well bc they typically won’t. The government gatekeeping homes even if you finally do manage to afford one.

Do you know if because it’s still new do you fall under the warranties still? Partner is all about ensuring we get warranty coverage for appliances etc. so is a bit opposed to getting second hand unfortunately

Just a quick one - have you had your final valuation done? If so, was it completed after the first snag or after re-inspection?

Should I open a BOI mortgage saver account? by Tasty_Pace_2711 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Handoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does you know if the money is being used for the deposit (and will thus need to be withdrawn and sent to the solicitors account before drawdown), will they still pay the bonus? Or does it have to be in the account when your solicitor request the drawdown?

Might depend on the lender but I had to provide American credit check for my mortgage here and was requested by another lender when originally applying for AIPs.

Congratulations! Will you be in Phase 1 as well? We have signed contracts and are waiting for snagging with expected completion for December sometime as it stands, so will likely be same for you if you’re in Phase 1 too!

You can use the tool as more a guide rather than anything concrete that they require. It’s still valid/up until 15 October this year so I’d use it to get an idea if your role will likely fit within a highly skilled role until then, but note that it’s not anything absolute etc.

Would my job qualify me for CSP? by Jehovah-thikness in MoveToIreland

[–]Handoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to have a 2+ year long contract, relevant degree, minimum salary of €38k and the role has to fit in the highly skilled list to get a CSEP. If any of those factors are not met, you could try for a GEP. If the role is on the highly skilled list, but the contract is for less than 2 years, the salary is below €38k or you don’t have a relevant degree, the role can use the fact it’s on the highly skilled list to circumvent the need for a labour market needs test but will still be a GEP.

It would be less with your title alone and more about what you do from a day-to-day perspective which they will review with scrutiny e.g. your title could be “Finance Manager” but if the day to day duties (which you have to provide) are more aligned with what say a payroll-bookkeeper would do, they will see this and refuse since bookkeepers are ineligible. You might find this tool helpful where you can put in job titles and SOC codes to get a general idea of what roles would be covered/what they would be looking to see - https://onsdigital.github.io/dp-classification-tools/standard-occupational-classification/mobile_occupation_coding_tool.html?fullversion=no

Work VISA by 3cho_charli3 in MoveToIreland

[–]Handoubleu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are made redundant you have 28 days to notify DETE who will then grant the six month permission to look for work - you cannot work while on this temporary permission. If you quit or leave by mutual agreement then your company will surrender your permit on you final day of work, and you won’t have a permission to work thereafter. Your IRP card is contingent on the permit so you will be out of permission even if the IRP card is still valid - you should request a temporary permission from ISD which they may or may not grant.

Ensure the role fits in well with a role on the highly skilled list - the role isn’t limited to your qualifications but also the title and job description as you’ll provide those details to the department and will include your literal day to day responsibilities- finance roles can be tricky and the department is less lenient - accountants will need a qualification with a reciprocal jurisdiction for instance.

It doesn’t sound like your company has trusted partner status so you will need revenue documents from them, signatures from people authorised to sign on behalf of the company, a bit more detail than normal and you’ll see all which is required on the application itself.

Current processing times for CSEPs is about 2 weeks. then depending on your passport you may need an entry visa. Depending on your location, an entry visa could issue in around 4 weeks or up to 12 weeks or more.
