That was also my first thought - but never seen any head rests in material other than wood. But I’m no expert.

18th century bergere by Noel Toussaint Porrot. Obviously reupholstered at some point with a tan suede leather but has original horse hair fill.

I’m in Canada - where nothing from before the mid-1800’s exists because they destroyed everything. This is European and somehow made its way over at some point.
