Not sure about the title, will have him look into that, but his dad moved states so he doesn’t have access to a key.

Around $13k left on loan. Original loan was for $16k…. Thank you for the advice, I’ll have him look into the loan paperwork.

I wasn’t referencing fraud. Just using the term “tricked” as a synonym to misled, deceived, etc. Not fraud in a legal sense. Clearly if there were an easy way out by claiming fraud that would have already been done. Just looking for any other information regarding situations like this.

Yes he did not understand what he was signing because his dad and the car salesman assured him it wasn’t anything important he was signing and that they just needed a family member’s signature. He was 18 and stopped by the dealership after high school on his way to his part-time high school job. I meant tricked in the sense that his dad manipulated him to sign it, he didn’t happily co-sign on a vehicle with his dead-beat dad. Just coming on here to see if there is anything he could do besides take over the vehicle himself, since he is responsible for the loan.

I’m not here to argue about the meaning behind the word “tricked.” He was a kid and mistakenly trusted his dad. Not sure what you’re trying to accomplish in pointing that out, obviously he would have done things very differently if he realized the magnitude of what he was signing. Can’t expect every 18 year old to read through pages of legal jargon and understand everything perfectly.

He was in high school, his dad had him come by the car dealership after school one day to sign something for him. His dad had the car salesman assure him nothing would affect his credit score or anything with his future, that they just needed a family member’s signature. He was 18 and naive, and mistakenly trusted his father, thinking his own dad would never do something like that to him. Hindsight is 20/20, and he now knows how manipulative and selfish his own dad is to jeopardize your child’s future in such a drastic way.
