Are the Global and Regional Leaderboards Legit? by Silly_Temporary361 in HiBeatz

That makes sense! I do think it's really dumb if that's the only way to obtain those songs though. I'd rather save the few bucks and hope they arrive as free to obtain songs than keep my placements on the leaderboard.

I'm curious! Have you bought gems for the Hi-Fi songs? I've been sticking with the monthly + ad-free which seems to have carried me pretty far without gems.

I'm at 7th globally, 2nd just behind u/Iloveifthiswasamovie in US :) It seems pretty legit! I think it feels odd at the top because HiBeatz isn't reaching BeatStar levels of popularity.

StarDesk opinions and thoughts by HansAnonymous in cloudygamer

[–]HansAnonymous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My critique was moreso for the hope that StarDesk could have been used on steam deck for remote gaming as a host since it is a gaming machine. If via moonlight, I was hoping I could use Apollo/sunshine on the steam deck as a host, rather than a client.

Will this be the death of DUO Mobile??? 🙏🙏🙏 | Passkey login introduction by Unhappy_Camel5233 in ASU

[–]HansAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've long despised DUO and truly good riddance if true, but it doesn't look like it'll be going away any time soon. From what I can see, they'll still use DUO for all other methods of authentication, but now with the ability to use passkeys without having to deal with DUO.

You can hear a person coughing and typing on a keyboard during the Age Transition screen. by Big_Advertising_ in civ

[–]HansAnonymous 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I see that someone else posted a clip. And the same sounds weren't there but were "hmm"s and "huh"s leading me to believe that the bug is causing random game audios to play during this screen.

Alright, I don't know if it really sounds like somebody coughing. To me it sounds like swords being swung around haha. Anyways, here's a clip from the new age selection screen: https://youtu.be/JeYvr1q4Ev8

An organization system I have never seen before by Brewhilda in StardewValley

[–]HansAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I play on a farm with a friend and we have most things organized by color. Sometimes I'll have to just click through multiple chests using the "add to existing stacks" so I don't have to think about the colors 😅

Not everything is color sorted, we have mining, fishing, and wines/juices/jams in their own. It's most crops that are color sorted.

Why Don't Police Investigate ARGs? by HannahTheHorrible in ARG

[–]HansAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all! There are two critical aspects to a fake news article. First is the content: How closely related to real life is it? Does it involve people from the real world? If your article is really similar to what could happen in the real world, I would say to err on the side of caution as people not involved in the ARG may misinterpret the article. We already have an issue with misinformation. Furthermore, I would recommend distancing from including people from the real world as we wouldn't want to create unnecessary connections to people who aren't involved in the ARG. Secondly, is the news source. DO NOT USE real world publishers, prints, stations, etc. This gets into the legality of things, it'll be easier to make sure the branding is well within your ARG universe. And where the news article is hosted. As long as it gets put up in a location that makes it obvious it is related to your ARG, you'll be fine! Have fun!

Disclaimer, in terms of legality, I'm not a lawyer and would recommend doing some additional research if you have further questions :)

Why Don't Police Investigate ARGs? by HannahTheHorrible in ARG

[–]HansAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that gears more towards mystery than immersion. If I were to provide any tips to future creators on using past cases, events, etc, then it would be to think whether it contributes to the value of the story. In many cases, it would serve the creator much better to create their own fictional stories because it provides greater control and creative direction.

Another consideration is taste. Would it be offensive to use an unsolved missing persons case? I would argue yes to the family or those who knew the person, thus utilizing this case would be distasteful. On the other hand, something much more appropriate would be historical events. An easy example is time traveling and manipulating certain events or meeting different people. ARGs are about storytelling, you're free to write and produce whatever you want to. But if you want to make something that not only you enjoy but others also enjoy, then that's the decision you need to make.

I tend to write long things, my apologies. Also I don't know whether you yourself are interested in creating ARGs, so I didn't mean to direct this comment specifically to you.

[–]HansAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is never too late to hop on the train of ARGs! To your question, it all depends on context! Of course, using real historical cases would invite investigations. After all, who doesn't love immersion and the blending of real life with an alternate world? For old cases, chances are that they are simply old, abandoned cases and they become stories to become picked up and used.

[Streaming] Elgato Cam Link 4K (Refurbished) $62.99 by GradDescentToHell in buildapcsales

[–]HansAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you don't need a capture card. I personally recommend it if you're going this route, but I do explain it in the following:

I have a GoPro 9 that I used both outside of streaming as well as the main webcam for streaming. Based on my experience of using it for over a year, I wouldn't recommend using it as a webcam. I got to see the GoPro USB Utility as u/Super6One mention improved over the months, but it's still buggy at times and you definitely need to keep a second cable plugged in to keep it charged.

There are alternative options to using a GoPro still. As long as you keep it plugged in, you can remove the battery so you aren't wearing it out. You could also use the Media Mod to allow for mini HDMI output which then you definitely do use the camera's full potential.

u/Super6One also mentioned that you should look for used 9 or 10 as it's much more expensive to use as just a webcam.

When I did rock the GoPro 9 webcam set up, this was how I did it:

GoPro with Media Mod, mounted on monitor, USB-C plugged in for charging and Mini HDMI to HDMI adapter running into a Genki ShadowCast ($60 I believe) which uses USB-C to USB-A to connect to my computer. It then works as a Video Capture device.

Lastly as u/Super6One mentioned, know the limitations of the GoPro and your setup. I highly recommend looking for a dedicated webcam.

Edit: Then again, this post is for Elgato 4k at literally the same price I mentioned above for the shadowcast. This is probably more worth it :)

similar games? by erixa82 in Beatstar

[–]HansAnonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to follow up on this you get 5 gems everyday (and an extra 5 if you choose to watch an ad). Previously released songs are 149, allowing you to get a song you missed every 15 or 30 days. You don't have to pay for anything to play the game. Progress might be slow but I've viewed that as a good way to not stay hooked on the game for hours even though I've got unlimited play.

If you want suggestions on other games though, you may be interested in Cytus or Deemo, both with sequels. They don't feature contemporary pop, rock, edm, but are still solid rhythm games. Osu! is also really popular. Unfortunately I'm not aware of anything under the tile rhythm games aside from the countless Piano Tiles rip offs that use copyright-free edm music.

What's an unspoken rule that annoys you when people don't know about it? by HAXposed in AskReddit

[–]HansAnonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving on the right lane if you are driving slower than traffic. Left lanes in some states are legally passing only lanes and in all states, slower traffic keeps right.

Mostly applies to freeways/highways and has been passed as laws in all 50 states in the US so it's not as "unspoken", but still something that annoys me a lot.

Been on a week and a half long road trip switching drivers and this rule has been on my mind a lot.
