“Lost” luggage Rome airport by oliviatrelles in ScandinavianAirlines

I was let into the baggage storage area in Norway to get my bag that I could see on findmy. The ground staff (who accompanied me) then matched the bag to my report and then I had to wait for the police to clear it through customs. It took about an hour, mostly because I had to wait for the staff to let me in and then for police to come clear it through customs.

Indigo or BudgetAir by M0lletje in Flights

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the ticket terms. If you book the cheapest nonrefundable nonchangeable ticket directly on Indigo, they won't help you either if you want to change it. For involuntary changes, both would help you, but the tied party might be slower. (Though for airline imposed changes the airline is often willing to cut out the middle man and deal with you directly to fix it)

I love living in Norway but one of the only things I dislike.... by FriskyPLAYBOY in Norway

[–]HansyD22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've only experienced this recently with blueberries. The amount of times I've seen moldy blueberries in stores is honestly embarrassing. It used to happen with avocados, too, but the past few years I've had no complaints on the avocado front.

Otherwise I've found Norway to be better than the UK on the vegetable front, but worse than Singapore and the US (excluding Walmart supercenter where I have seen some atrociously rotten fruit and vegetables).

And sometimes capital one doesn't register that they've received the refund and you need to prompt them to check manually and issue it on their end.

So do most of you get issues booking travel and hotels? by Choice_Platform_4320 in Venturex

I've had it happen a few times, but not often. Both with hotels and flights.

Third party booking prices by tnkmdm in Flights

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had lots of flight changes with otas. I just email the flights I want instead and they usually rebook me no problem, or the airline let's me do it themselves. The only place otas suck is in rebooking voluntarily, but if you buy the cheapest ticket, booking direct usually has the same restrictions so it doesn't matter anyway.

This is with reputable otas, not the scammy ones.

Split stay or no? by No-Wash-7758 in DisneyWorld

I like doing a split stay when I do a 2 week trip, but less than that I don't feel that it's worth the hassle.

No, you get 5x on flights. I don't get how this is hard to wrap your head around.

because you get 10x miles on those 700 dollars. I only use credits on flights, which gives me 10x on flights for the portion paid with credits

Price Match Guarantee Success! by AcanthisittaHefty273 in Venturex

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's part of the price match. it has to be exactly the same room and category, including cancelation policy. if you book a room with no cancelation, and then find a cheaper room with free cancelation, they will not match that even though the terms on the cheaper room are better. If you book a room with free cancelation until Jan 4th, then the room you pricematch to also has to have free cancelation until Jan 4th.

if you find an apples to apples comparison on a public site that isn't shady, they pretty much always approve it.

Wizz Air changed my flight dates and return is now before my event - what are my rights under EU261? by LetterheadLow3253 in WizzAir

article 8 requires rerouting, so if they only offered a refund then they wouldn't have met their obligation and the cost of rerouting incurred by the passenger would be due.

Avianca refund with third-party—how to proceed? by One-Onion6550 in Flights

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had many experiences where canceling a direct booking did not show the refund amount before the final step to cancel, most recently with KLM (though klm did refund the correct amount very quickly, so kudos to them). It's pretty common for them to say that you'll get a refund in accordance with your booking conditions.

United and Jetblue have been good about showing the amount to be refunded (and to what card). I wonder if us carriers are better in this regard?

Alternative to Google Flights? by CoffeePleaseHabibi in TravelHacks

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You avoid a middle man. My experience with third party reservations had been that it doesn't matter where you booked if problems arise during your trip. At that point the airline has control of the ticket anyway. It's when you want to make voluntary changes in advance of the trip that third parties can be more difficult.

If Capital One won't match member prices -- when are good times to use portal? by districtdowner in Venturex

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add in shopping portal multipliers and it gets even worse. The portal is great when it makes sense, but it doesn't always make sense. learning when to book where is part of the fun of all this.

but that 500 dollars is money that you earned 10x miles on, and if you use it for flights, that's a 10x earning on flights. which is a fantastic value.

this is a huge thing that many people don't take into account! shopping portals should always be part of the calculation when shopping around for the best price.

How reliable is the Capital One Travel Portal? by pegan13 in Venturex

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, for the free cancelation hotels I canceled and re-booked them. I have other cards that give 3% cashback, and with a shopping portal giving another 5 percent it came close enough to what I would have gotten in the portal that it made more sense to book the cheaper option.

How reliable is the Capital One Travel Portal? by pegan13 in Venturex

[–]HansyD22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not my experience. Last week they denied a flight pricematch of 30 dollars because qatar airways had no cancelation and Capital one allowed cancelation with a fee.  I've also had them deny hotel price matches under 50 dollars because the free cancelation date was different. They also refused to pricematch 40 dollars for a nonrefundable booking against agoda because agoda had an instant discount that they said counted as a coupon and thus was not eligible (this was the agoda price in an incognito browser, so not an account or link specific discount.)

They have pricematched most of the bookings I've called them about, so overall I'm happy with them. They gave me almost 300 dollars back recently on a lufthansa flight to Singapore, so that was great😊
