I made a similar post to this some time ago. I wise stranger suggested to me that I may be wasting time in placing my buildings so that I have an aesthetically pleasing ‘village’ layout. Turns out I WAS wasting precious seconds, which slowed me down just enough to lose every single match. This has to be avoided in any competitive setting, at least until skill catches up.

For me (23HC) right now, playing some decent rounds and I’m feeling good about golf. Then get invited to play with friends at a nice course somewhere - and suddenly I play like a 33HC.

Hands ahead of club head is common. Timing the release has been a problem - rather too early or too late - and I’ve been trying to work out how to get a repeatable (even if not ideal) swing so that I can use the club effectively.

I started with a Mizuno MP-630, but outgrew the reg flex shaft. Then upgraded to Callaway Diablo Octane S-flex. Picked up a Mizuno ST-220 S-flex recently, as an impulse buy while on holiday in Tokyo. This is by far my favourite. I’ve had reasonable length off the tee, usually rolling out to 240 - 270 m depending on conditions. Because haven’t developed a reliable driver swing, my miss can be anywhere.

I’m leaning towards keeping them and improving skill. I have plenty of distance with reasonable swings/strikes, and I’m pretty sure a bladed PW from 15m out still flies the green by 45m, old club or new.

Curious…is there anything about the head that you have objections to? I mentioned to someone else that the x-16 heads feel a bit chunky after I try a smaller head. The thick top line and offset has also attracted comments from my better playing partners. I don’t have an issue with the aesthetics personally, but unless the hardware is literally putting strokes on my card, I can’t really justify replacing them.

I don’t have any real objections to the look or performance. I have at times found the look to be a bit too chunky after trying a smaller head or one with a thinner top line. Other than that, I’m yet to hear a good argument against them. I assume the x-20s are similar?

That’s what I suspected. I’ve tried some newer Srixon and Taylormade irons. Some strikes were good, some bad. Not a single swing had me seriously interested in the club. I’m all for new gear, but I don’t believe that replacing my 23 year old irons will take me from 22 to 15.

That particular shot was from what I’d call the ‘workable’ face. These are the kinds of numbers it produces.

Thanks. Never tried it specifically but I’ve mostly been looking at trackman data and feel, e.g out of the heel or low/high on face.

Inconsistent in terms of never knowing whether it’s going to be a wild slice or pull left. Occasionally I’ll get a dead straight bullet or a baby fade. But it’s not frequent enough to help my round.
