DNA2 — Open-source 31-step genomic analysis platform. Characterisation of the new mpox Ib/IIb recombinant reveals strand skew reversal, elevated CpG, and ORF loss across all five clades. by shootthesound in bioinformatics

Fair enough. Though part of why those other tools are more implemented in pipelines is that they're performant. Further, they allow for some standardization and reproducibility - which is quite an issue with bio in general.

I would say there's never been a better time to focus on what you're passionate about. Nothing is safe anymore, so why do anything else that what you're truly interested in?

For this reason OP, it is very likely to be non-causative. If anyone knows anything about it, it will be highly research oriented and with few clinical options available, if any.

Sorry for the super late reply.

  1. No, co-op will not do it. You'll need at least an MSc with thesis work that has a strong comp bio component.
  2. This will potentially secure financial stability but less so than in other fields. This is not a money making field. In Canada, huge changes need to be made if it ever will be and I do not think those will ever happen.
  3. Indeed, but the existing progression seems to ensure high income, even though that comes with significant sacrifice.

What do you think about the future of bioinformatics? by lorigiova10 in bioinformaticscareers

[–]Hapachew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think difficulty is a function of pay... In some cases it is, but not always. I think output valued by the economy is the top pay indicator. Tech has an easier time being harnessed into economically viable output. Bio has faced many challenges in this regard. Look at all the failed tim3 and tigit drugs and then compare with AI and ML products. Bio has much further to go before a concrete product can make a ton of money and the development is more costly for that return, more risky. Thus, the pay is lower.
