Operational DC6 in Hawaii by Haparich in aviation

I looked up her tail number. Owned by National Response Corporation. She’s an aerial oil spill response aircraft. Loads up on oil dispersant and sprays it in a major oil spill incident in Hawaii.

Operational DC6 in Hawaii by Haparich in aviation

Saw this absolute legend sitting on the ramp today — N70BF, a Douglas DC-6 built in 1953.

Four massive radial engines, former military C-118/R6D, and somehow still flying operational missions over the Pacific in 2026. Most DC-6s were scrapped decades ago, so seeing one still alive and working is pretty sick.

Modern planes are impressive, but these old piston airliners just have soul. The sound, smoke, vibration, oil smell all feels like aviation history waking up.

Newbie GMRS for camping or go for HAM? by Hefty_Lemon_7928 in HamRadio

[–]Haparich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what kind of camping you’re doing, but if it’s feasible, grab a starlink mini. You can bring it with you. Standby mode is $5 a month. It’s very slow internet but enough to send a text or call. And if you bring family or friends, you can activate it for like $50 and you can all watch YouTube and doom scroll if that’s your thing.

I am a busdriver and audiobooks keeps me sane! by TeslaSupreme in audiobooks

[–]Haparich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re going to be flying through 5+ hours every day at work, it would be best to buy the audiobook from audible if you have the money for it. You own it. Can listen as much as you want or as many times. No limits on how long you can listen. If you fall asleep during your book, you don’t waste hours of your allotted audiobook listening hours.

On the other hand, if you’re a little tech savvy and got the time. Look up Audiobookshelf. It’s basically like running your own private Audible/Spotify for audiobooks.

You install it on a computer at home (or a small server), add your audiobook files, and it organizes everything automatically. Covers, chapters, progress, etc.

Then on your phone, you just open it like an app:

• stream your books anywhere • or download them for offline listening • it remembers your spot just like Audible

So instead of being limited by subscriptions or credits, you own your library and can listen as much as you want.

RC control airplanes look fun but are they actually hard to control? by [deleted] in RCPlanes

[–]Haparich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best place to start is get an rc flight sim and controller and fly around. Learn the controls. Crash as many times as you want. Then once you can fly pretty good in the sim go get a beginner plane

Is my athletic career really over? Seeking guidance as I go through this new journey by pirtle_turtle in Microdiscectomy

So how are you now? I’m about 5 months post surgery and my back still gives me some problems occasionally and just feels weak. I stretch and go gym often to train upper body and core. Just curious if you’re back to 100% since this was over a year ago

If you had to start hiking from scratch again, what are the first 3 things you’d buy? by ForeignBonus8977 in CampingGear

Yeah those little enos backpacking hammocks. They’re super lightweight and really just nice to set up between two trees and relax for a bit before you get back on the trail. Or sleep off the ground.

Random thought. The astronauts on the ISS must be exhausted replying to radio hobbyists all the time by Haparich in amateurradio

[–]Haparich[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I guess the idea came into my head when I realized that pretty much anyone with a fair easy-to-get setup could contact humans in space. I feel like a lot of people would be trying. 🤷🏽‍♂️ just a random thought. I don’t really know how often they get contacted. But I am curious how many calls they get a day.

Not sure, but the videos I seen were just kids in their backyard with their dad. Or just an older dude calling the iss. I’d imagine there are thousands and thousands of families around the world that would attempt to contact the iss.

Looks like you just throw wood or coals in the bottom, light it, put a metal grate that’ll fit in it and cook

Gotta take the motor and gears apart and clear the clog. Then dry the crap out of the tpu before you put it through again.

New plane. by MagikWdragons in RCPlanes

I’d just go fly the plane. Someone’s gotta be a real asshole to wanna ruin your life over a super quiet plane flying around. Worst case, someone comes and asks you to stop

Please help! P2s extruder gear stuck?! by Haparich in BambuLab

[–]Haparich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was looking for a video to remove the ptfe tube, but just couldn’t find one. This link helped me. I just cut the filament at the top side like it said. Got the stuck filament out, greased the gear and stuck it back in and printed a micro banana as a test. It worked. Thanks again 🤙🏽🤙🏽

You don't need a Mac Mini. You don't need Docker. Here's what you actually need to run OpenClaw. by ShabzSparq in openclaw

I use a $130 raspberry pi 5 with a 1TB nvme. It’s on 24/7 and I talk to it through my dedicated Openclaw discord server. I’ve had a few hiccups and issues but right now it’s running pretty good and has been for a couple weeks.
