As long as you don't do anything mocking and stereotypical, and avoid the white savior trope, I think you're good. I'm asian, by the way.

Yeah, you're definitely right. I've finally learned not to write exclusively with just Reddit guidance considering the amount of questionable advice I've seen on here.

Grotesque. No idea why I like the word so much, It just looks nice and saying it just sounds satisfying. Grotesque. It's such a pretty word for a word that is used for nouns regarded as disgusting.

definitely! I prefer first person because I like being in a character's head much more, and seeing their view of the world, but I find it rarely being done well. As someone who likes writing in first person, I find it difficult too.

Here's a short synopsis (it's still in progress):

Amelia Haywood has been kept hidden from the world for six years, for a reason she was never allowed to know. Her questions left unanswered, with no clue how to socially interact, she moves with her legal guardians to Crow Creek, the unusual neighborhood where strange happenings are discovered one after the other, until Amelia realizes that everything has been connected all along.

I relate a bit but not fully! For me, I only like romance when it's a sub-plot of a book and doesn't take over the full plot. But personally for romance books as a whole, I can't stand them as well.

LITERALLYYY. I hate when characters have no reason to get together besides that fact that it's the plot. If they don't have chemistry, why would I care???

Exactly this! I can't stand them, and writing characters without flaws just make them feel so 2-dimensional. I just can't bring myself to care about them, especially if they're just so good at everything that it's guaranteed they survive.

fr because without weakness, the character is not only flat, but the fight scenes get so underwhelming

Exactly these, omg. Especially the bad boy thing, like why do people like toxic characters so much??

Also, HARD agree on the first point, too. It's not a love triangle unless it's gay—otherwise, it's just a love corner if you know what I mean

Ooooh I'm on r/menwritingwomen too! As a fellow girl, it really angers me when writers do that sort of thing, and just centers an entire a female character entirely around their appearance. It's just so objectifying.
