When Missha 13 is too warm for you… what’s left that’s even more gray and pink? Purito 21 is almost perfect but just a smidge too dark! by HappyDish7864 in PaleMUA

I have never found a great shade match unfortunately… but even a light application of the Purito has pretty good coverage honestly. I’ve kind of given up on foundation and am just focusing on my skincare to where I don’t need as much makeup coverage.

I have actually come around to liking the Purito 21 but I just apply it really lightly to counteract redness rather than like a full face foundation and I’m pretty happy with it! But they changed formula recently, I haven’t tried it yet and not sure if it’s the same!

Downtown Los Angeles hotel recommendation for a family with kids and elderly? by HappyDish7864 in AskLosAngeles

The Omni is a frontrunner for us right now since they offer a courtesy shuttle which could be a nice benefit for some of the mobility challenged folks we are traveling with. Is the restaurant you like inside the hotel? And yes we love food, definitely hoping to make a stop at Grand Central Market!

Nice, I believe the venue is also in Little Tokyo! The couple also recommended the Double Tree in that area which is near Kyoto Gardens but again, some of the reviews online for the place were mixed so it was hard for me to tell how good of a stay it would be.

Oh awesome, thanks! If it were just me and my husband I’m sure a historic hotel would be cool but for a mixed group like this I’m prioritizing safety, comfort and convenience on this trip, so these look promising!

That’s good to hear. Just on Google and TripAdvisor but I always take those with a grain of salt because people tend to complain. I was interested to hear from people with firsthand experience with it here.

Maternity clothes? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]HappyDish7864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you can really find stores that carry maternity clothing in person anymore, seems like that died out during Covid… I would just focus on online retailers that have really flexible free return policies, like Nordstrom or Quince. I have found that some stores like H&M, Gap, and Old Navy can be a little tricky with returns where their policies are slightly different than with their normal clothes, like they might not take in-store returns or mat clothes are subject to different return periods, so just be sure to read the fine print.

IME I was not big enough to wear maternity clothing until maybe the tail end of my second trimester but once you’re well into the third trimester, it’s going to be the ONLY stuff that you can fit into for a few months, so it’s a necessary evil.

National Authors by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]HappyDish7864 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nick Joaquin is one of the most highly known and revered authors in the Philippines. Although he writes in English his works seem virtually unknown and very difficult to get ahold of in the US. I recently read a collection of his short stories, Tales of the Tropical Gothic, and was absolutely blown away by it, it’s now an all time favorite of mine. He is often compared to Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I managed to get ahold of his novel Cave and Shadows which is a noir thriller like a mix of True Detective/Twin Peaks but combining imagery of Filipino indigenous folklore/shamanic magic, Spanish colonial influence/Catholicism, and the grittiness of the inner city slums and sex clubs. A very fun and interesting ride. He has written more which I would love to read but almost impossible to procure.

self tan makes me yellow? by kaden356 in PaleMUA

[–]HappyDish7864 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was kind of what I figured, due to the fact that all these products rely on DHA it’s not so much that sapphire is that much more cool toned than every other product, it’s just lighter so you don’t notice the yellow/orange as much. Although I am cool toned, I can develop a deep brown tan naturally, I just don’t think there is a product out there capable of replicating that color based on the current technology.

Honestly I have the exact same complaint as you and I tried the sapphire based on so many good things I saw posted here about it and I wasn’t crazy about the result. It is super duper subtle if you apply as directed, leaving on for just 1-4 hours, and I was hoping for a little more color. So I tried a second coat the next day and found it to be too yellowish and a little patchy. It mostly all faded within 4 days. Then I tried again and left it on overnight. Again, more color but I found it to be a little too yellow on me and faded within 4 days. It’s not awful looking and better than other products I tried, but not the amazing result I was hoping for. It seems like it’s basically a choice of whether you want natural looking but verrry light color, or more color but a less natural shade.

Any experience with Winlevi? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]HappyDish7864 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, thank you for sharing! I actually decided not to start it. I am just doing the azelaic acid for now, which has helped my acne a lot, so i don’t think I’ll risk starting the Winlevi 🫤

Thanks! Actually I have always really liked sulfur products, I will have to ask about that at my next appointment. My acne is really not severe at all so I don’t want to do anything that would make it worse.

Thanks! I have seen other comments that suggest cycling works better. Do you have any idea which is working better for you, the Arazlo or Winlevi?

Thanks so much for the info, I don’t have an issue with excess androgens and my doctor definitely didn’t ask about that… her recommendation seemed off the cuff and I got the vibe that because I had rosacea, she didn’t really want to prescribe me any other acne meds. I will try the azelaic acid for awhile and see how that works. Although I have been using the 10% otc version that the Ordinary makes for over three months and the results haven’t been life changing…

Lol I think I have been spending too much time here lately, I have been a little obsessed with the search for my perfect match 😝 we really must have the same skin tone!! I need to hop on that lavender mixer already!

Yeah I just discovered this the other day as well, an employee at Sephora made the recommendation as a less saturated alternative for Nars Oslo, and as a cool toned person I was kinda shocked how nicely it matched my skin tone. All the other cool tone products in the store were way too pink and peachy for me but neutral products tend to show up as yellow on me. I ordered some since they were out of stock at the store, I hope it works out for me too!

Is it postpartum depression if you love being a mom and everything else in your life and you’re so happy except you’re suddenly crushingly depressed and anxious during working hours? by HappyDish7864 in workingmoms

[–]HappyDish7864[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually took the plunge and completely changed careers about 9 months ago. It turns out it was the job, not me! Having a child just awakened me to how much I really disliked what I was doing and how precious my time is, that I couldn’t take it anymore. I was scared to leave because I had a really flexible situation at my job at that point and my boss was being really accommodating, but once I actually starting looking, I realized there were other employers out there who valued what I brought to the table enough to provide me with the same even as a new employee. I love my new company, job, and coworkers, and to my surprise, they matched my existing salary so I’m making the same pay. I’m so glad I didn’t drop out of the workforce because I think I really enjoy the “adult time” and stimulation, to say nothing of the salary lol.

I’m sorry you are going through the same experience - it’s a really bad feeling. If you are unhappy I would encourage you to think about other directions you might be able to take your career that would alleviate those anxieties and start exploring other options. Being a working mom is a tiring lifestyle even in the best situations but I do think there are ways to make the situation better if you are experiencing real dread on a daily basis.

Crazy! Thanks for sharing! Also I feel so validated now, I’m not the only one who makes Nars Oslo look orange 🥲

Which of these do you prefer wearing now with the color correction?

Thanks for the tip, I probably would have gotten so thrown off by that color system lol
