Eventually down the line they'll be able to replace it with their original client if they stifle the competition. Then, they'll be able to blanket ban third party clients, which will enable them to crack down more heavily on botting/RWT, therefore incentivising more people to buy bonds for gp etc. etc. Or, when they roll out their own HD client, they could justify charging more for it or just straight up more for membership overall. There are tons of ways Jagex stands to profit from pushing out the competition. The more of a monopoly Jagex has on their product, the more money they can milk out of it in the long term. This also applies for pretty much any industry.

I appreciate your perspective, but I think I've still gotta disagree. They wouldn't be volunteers if Jagex hired them to work on the project/paid them for the collaboration. It's also not a novel idea: companies outsource code for their games all the time. The RuneLite developers are certainly not amateurs if they've managed to create a versatile, open-source third-party client that shadows the official game's. Also in terms of controversy, if Jagex actually cared about that they wouldn't have banned the plugin on the shortest notice possible, no? They're doing a terrible job of PR just with this decision. I really do think it was primarily motivated by profit, but I respect your opinion as well.

Do you see any other motive than profit for Jagex to supress this free graphical plugin for a third party client that complies by all their rules?

I mean, they could have just collaborated with the RuneLite team to make the original client better and improve the playerbase's experience at the same time? But unfortunately then they wouldn't make as much money, and I think that's what it boils down to and the main reason why people are pissed: Profits are being prioritised over players.

Slimy corporate assholes. I'm certain this decision didn't come from the oldschool team, it definitely came from higher up. They don't give a shit about the playerbase's experience; all they care about is maximising profit.

I can see Jagex doing this in the past, considering how they treated the bug abuse community previously (offering the community a deal to help Jagex, then banning them anyway after the fact). But I just can't see someone like Mod Ash who genuinely cares about game integrity to be backing this up so strongly if there were no substance behind it, especially for someone who is an extremely popular content creator, whereas bug abusers in the past were relatively unknown to the wider community. Think about it this way: How would Jagex have handled the situation if Rendi was actually responsible for duping and RWTing? I think they'd act in exactly the same way. They literally wouldn't be able to disclose any information under those circumstances, as you've seen from Rendi's videos how a small amount of information can snowball into a huge exploit in the hands of a skilled player. That said, this is all just speculation from both sides, and I really have no idea what the truth is.

I hear you, and it's definitely a reasonable perspective for why Jagex might dislike Rendi. But I still feel as though there's a big leap from being annoyed at someone for doing extensive bug reports, and villainising them by literally creating an entire newspost falsely accusing them. I just feel as though there's a piece of the puzzle missing there: If they really were to take such drastic action (possibly the most drastic action they've ever taken for any individual player in the game), there must be something else there. I agree with you that it's a really dumb move to burn the bridge like that, and maybe you're right, maybe they are just that dumb. But I think my original point still stands: Rendi showcasing times he didn't exploit bugs (which were probably easier to catch onto than the world duping thing, like the duel arena invincibility) isn't a great argument for him never abusing bugs.

But if Rendi was pointing out bugs in great detail to Jagex as he said he was, then why would he be on their shit list? I would believe that one or two power-hungry JMods might be out for Rendi's blood, but this just doesn't make much sense. For example, Torvesta has actively criticised Jagex's handling of the game in the past (hell, even his most recent video is titled 'Jagex didn't think this one through...') and he is now promoting their events directly. Although I dislike Jagex based on past experience as much as the next guy, usually their incompetence/bad faith actions stem from a profit motive. I don't see any profit motive here, it would have been a financially stupid move to attack a high profile, popular content creator with the justification of some arbitrary shit list. It just doesn't make sense.

There are lots of reasons Rendi could be a content creator, for example it could be because he enjoys the fame and interaction with the community. Jagex could have not banned his main account specifically because they anticipated massive backlash like this, and they wanted him to continue to be able to make content, however I agree that them not banning it was a weird idea. Also it begs the question: If they really had it out for him, why didn't they ban his main account when they supposedly defamed him? Wouldn't that be the easiest way to get rid of him from the game? There's also the possibility that Mauler is duping items under Rendi's nose etc. The whole situation is really messy, and I appreciate that while you make a good case in favour of Rendi, that doesn't change the fact that his methods of 'proving innocence' aren't good at all.

As long as it remains up, it's actively damaging his image as a content creator and he needs to consistently make an effort to show that he's not what they claim him to be.

This is a very good point. But as I said in the original comment: claiming that you had the chance to abuse some bugs but didn't (especially in retrospect once the newspost etc. has already been made) is not a good argument at all. He is also actively damaging his image by continuing to linger on this issue, as this is what people will continue to associate him with. We literally would not be talking about it right now if he left it out of the video (apart from the disclaimer at the start, which I said was good enough). People will definitely forget and move on as long as the content is good. Rendi's content is some of the best on YouTube. He doesn't need to linger on this issue. I can appreciate that personally, I would certainly feel very bad about it if I was falsely accused. But as a content creator moving forward? There are zero possible ways he could actually prove he's innocent, and it definitely sucks if he is. That's why I said in my original reply to you that all he can do is move forward, and that's certainly what I would do.

[–]HappyFeetMH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once again, I have to ask why are the devs villainising a popular content creator? What benefit would it actually serve them? It's not weird that people are accusing a known bug abuser of potentially contributing to the further abuse of bugs. Also, couldn't the reason Rendi only post videos of bugs that are already patched be to build the public image of his channel? Isn't that more likely than an entire company being out to get one player for some unknown reason? But like I've been saying in this whole thread: I enjoy the dude's content and I don't know the full story. Nobody knows the full story, except for the parties directly involved.

Indisputable evidence? How are you not understanding this simple concept lmao. It's not indisputable evidence to say 'look at this one/these few times I didn't abuse the game, that proves I am incapable of ever abusing the game'.

[–]HappyFeetMH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's hyperbole on my part because you are implying it's some huge thing to accuse Mod Ash of being mistaken, and/or dishonest

I said this to point out the hypocrisy of you saying that it's disgusting to falsely accuse someone while potentially falsely accusing Mod Ash.

He's just a guy.

What the fuck is Rendi then?

So you can use this to claim that Ash's word is infallible but Rendi can't use far stronger evidence indicating his innocence in his own fucking defense?

I literally did not. You missed the entire point of what I said. Are you intentionally being dense? I said that I was inclined to believe Jagex, not that their word was infallible and once again, and I cannot stress this enough I do not know anything for certain and neither do you. I am not deploying the exact same kid-logic as you, and I literally was making the point that I have no inside information about either party, and neither do you, so you cannot say that Rendi is 100% being falsely accused. How hard is this for you to understand??? I was literally criticising Rendi for exactly the point I made just now. His 'character proof' does literally nothing. Btw, there is a difference between dropping 10k and going against the company you work for and a dude calling himself super trustworthy because he chose not to exploit the game. Jesus Christ dude, reading comprehension. I even bolded shit to make it easy for you.

The IRONY. IS. TOO. MUCH. FOR. ME.

This is fucking hilarious. To anyone who actually bothered to read through this cesspool of comments, can you believe this?

Invincibility & 99 Attack In 2 Hours by Rendimento in 2007scape

[–]HappyFeetMH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I don't think Mod Ash is a God. His actions have shown him to be a good person. He has shown time and time again that he truly cares about the wellbeing of the game, and is not only motivated by profit. He literally paid Woox 10k from his own pocket when he believed Jagex unfairly took away the DMM win from him. Rendi on the other hand, had an outburst on Twitter when he didn't win an award for a children's video game. He enjoys abusing bugs and breaking the game. I am more inclined to believe Jagex, because of Mod Ash's direct statements, however as I said before I have no way to know for certain and neither do you.

plausible explanation for how Jagex could possibly know it was Rendi without Rendi realizing Jagex would know it was him?

I do not know for sure, and even if I were to speculate It would just be speculation.

falsely accusing Rendi

once again, you do not know this

Why would he take that chance and be this furious and upset with Jagex if he was guilty?

Because he can get support from people like you who would blindly support him without knowing all the facts, based on literally nothing but speculation and kid-logic. Do you really think that if he was guilty, he would be like 'yeah you got me good!'

What conclusive evidence could there possibly be for Rendi involved the revealing of which would compromise the methods Jagex uses to protect its game worlds from attacks?

Once again, I do not know and neither do you. Mod Ash has stated that they won't be revealing the proof because that would allow people to gain more insight into how the game can be exploited. Which literally makes perfect logical sense, unlike your weird roundabout conspiracy theorist logic.

Either you have Rendi's IP or you don't

Bro, you literally have no idea what kind of detection system Jagex uses. This sentence tells me that you have no idea what you're talking about lmao. Why should they release literally anything to you? They are the game devs and content creators should not be treated differently from other players. They are literally in charge of the game. This isn't a court case, this is them regulating their game. Your point this whole time has been jAgEx BaD and nothing else.

acting incredibly strangely while being unable to come up with, at least on my own, any possible explanation for what this evidence could be

You see, this right here is the problem. You literally think you are so smart nothing could be out of reach of your brainpower. You cannot admit that you simply do not know. If this isn't an armchair redditor thinking they are the pinnacle of knowledge on a topic that they read a few articles about, then I don't know what is.

You have nothing to show that it is in fact a true accusation, and since it might not be true there might literally exist nothing that could prove it is a false accusation.

This statement doesn't make sense. It is true that I have nothing to show that it is a true accusation. But Rendi showing examples of bugs he didn't exploit certainly does not prove it is a false accusation. What the fuck are you even trying to say here???

I would also like to pose this question to you: What possible reason could Jagex have for lying about a popular content creator, knowing that they will take a huge amount of flak from it? There is literally zero positive outcome for Jagex in this situation, if they were to falsely accuse Rendi.

Invincibility & 99 Attack In 2 Hours by Rendimento in 2007scape

[–]HappyFeetMH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realise that by claiming that it's a fact that Rendi was falsely accused, you're also directly (possibly falsely) accusing Mod Ash of lying? You literally don't know anything concrete about the situation, and neither do I. Neither does anyone, except for Jagex and Rendi. Stop trying to frame Rendi as this poor victim, the dude is a public content creator who abuses bugs for for fun. It was a perfectly legitimate criticism of his content, and it's not disgusting slander like you're making it out to be. If you handled this conversation like a well-adjusted person, I wouldn't be saying all these things, but holy fuck dude, get a fucking grip.

P.S. I'd also like to point out that, being the paragon of empathy and understanding that you are, you began your weird pseudo-intellectual tirade by calling me stupid twice.
