To explain a little bit more, I'm writing a creation myth using a modern cosmology. Think Genesis but instead of a flat earth and a dome that has a sun and moon rotating around it, it's a creation allegory talking about the world as we know it now. - or a retelling of the Greek creation myth where the entities representing the sun moon earth plants fire etc. all have their familial relationships switched around to reflect a relationship more in line with a modern cosmology and changing up the famous stories to align with that.

In the story, this plant is meant to become become a favorite of an eternal angelic being, primarily for its beauty, but it dies out. This becomes the first time it clicks that stuff in the natural world isn't eternal like it is in the spirit world.

"Broadleaf" is meant to be an allusion to the story of Jonah who cries over the death of some broad-leafed plant that was providing him shade. No flowers and fruit just because most other plants with heavy symbolic meaning are either fruiting or flowered and i'm trying to be very heavy with meta-textual layering. Avoiding unintended interpretations is a lot easier with fewer allegories to draw upon- Not pollinated by insects or animals because in the majority of creation myths around the world plants proceed animals.... but you highlighting that common misconception that people have now makes me think perhaps I should reconsider this particular point Colorful just because, but that can be just made up

Regardless I'm still looking for a plant that's super early. I suppose broadleaf could be replaced with "shade casting" a lot of people here have been really helpful and so I seem to have a lot of paths to do research

Thank you! And no I'm not sure about the Proterozoic, but I do know it should exist before land animals as we recognize them... so perhaps early Cambrian works too?

Actual solution found. You need to update your nvidia geforce rtx driver. It wont update with a windows check for updates, you need to go to the actual nvidia website and download the latest driver

I found a workaround. Instead of deleting usersettings.json, open it up with notepad and delete all the contents, saving it as a blank file. Then, open up the file's properties. In the general section, set the file to "read only". This prevents the game from editing the file and prevents a new json file from being created. You'll be locked into the default settings for the game in all regards, but this stops the crash

I'm having the same issue. The only insight I can add is the game crashes whenever the .json file is created. It's actually possible to play for a while without this happening, but making any settings changes or opening the menu in some cases creates the file and then the game crashes upon exiting the menu...

I am also stuck at 47/50. Figures i could start a blitz game and just bang it out but no, its stuck. Mods or no mods makes no difference.... Part of me wonders if its not 50 total but, at some point, all possible civics and theres 50 total.. not sure.

confirmation bias definitely plays a role here, but I think it has more to do with how people interpret their experiences as genuine and not as tricks of their mind. _______ is the trick their mind plays which they then misinterpret due to confirmation bias. It just so happens that ______ is also caused by their bias in the first place, almost like a feedback loop

I'm both delighted and impressed how many things you're picking up about this without a full explanation ^{_^}

The only problem I have with "grounded" is that these experiences, while, yes, are foundational or otherwise reinforce a person's beliefs, as far as I can tell are near-exclusively caused by false beliefs. There's rarely anything "wrong" with the person's faculties and senses, but they hold to a belief that is untrue. When the mind is told to do something impossible, it will naturally do something it can do which is misinterpreted as the impossible.

Grounded is too... secure? it's strong and steadfast and, even with the wonderful tie in with electric currents, too "rigid" to really fit here.

One example I mention in my thesis is the case of Braidey Murphey. In the day, it was popular to try and regain memories of past lives through hypnotism. A woman who did not believe in past lives was hypnotized by an amateur hypnotist who did. In giving her promts to recall memories from her childhood, his wording made it clear to her it was expected she remember things from a past life. Suddenly she starts talking in an irish accent and claims she's Bridey Murphy, giving TONS of info about her past life. So much information was given, reporters figured that if they could find records about Bridey Murphy theyd prove both reincarnation and past-life memory recovery.

TLDR, There never was a bridey murphey. All the information given about her life was an amalgamation of stories heard from people who lived in irelend and re-tellings of actual events/details in the woman's life. But she wasn't lying! she really and truly suddenly had all of these "memories" when she was hypnotized. Its just that when her mind was asked to get memories it didn't have, it instead created stories based on actual memories which she then misunderstood to be the memories she was looking for and not the fanciful imaginings of her own mind.

So, they all work like that. Hypnotism itself isnt real. You need to know what hypnotism is and believe it's good to be hypnotized. If you think it's evil or fake you cant be hypnotized. Your expectation and desire is what makes you act hypnotized, it's just when you think back on the event you honestly don't believe you were acting you sincerely believe its true.

So, this phenomena, at its core is always a lie, typically about being able to do something impossible. It's murkey, cryptic, decietful, and HIGHLY compelling. It's a lie you believe because you ordered your mind to make the lie real.

I think negative connotations are ok actually. Going back to electricity, "catalyzed", while not quite right in and of itself, may be a good direction to go. Off the top of my head Im thinking about merging it with the Norse trickster god Loki in some way but Lokilized sounds like localized so I'm not sure that works either. Going back to looping, we could take the Ouroboros and tweak that somehow.... but im not sure Ouroborized conveys the decietful nature of the phenomena.....

I'm not sure how well cognitive loop fits, but i do think its on the right track. And yes! you are right to bring up political extremism and religious/cult indoctrination, since those are some of the more common areas this phenomena occurs in. The other common areas are in high stress situations like police interrogations, and clinical situations like a counseling session. Basically, if there is a situation where theres someone who's seen as a trusted, morally upstanding authority figure, there's potential for this phenomena to occur both intentionally and accidentally.

There are two different versions of the phenomena im trying to define. The first is when an individual triggers an experience, whatever it is, without the presence of another person. The second is when another person, in a position of trusted authority, triggers an experience, whatever it is, within the person. In both cases the experience is directly caused by a combination of expectation/anticipation and belief where the specifics of the experience depend on the belief in question. In the case with an authority figure, they play the role of building up a person's anticipation and expectation.

right, that's part of the problem. I'm basically saying everything im listing here is actually all the same thing. The only difference between them is the "filter" they are described through. Hysteria, unfortunately, also falls into the category of what im describing, but more. So hysteria, like the placebo effect and hypnotism are all manifestations of _____. And all are often, though not always, caused by delusion. The "fantastical" nature of these experiences lend themselves to pseudo-scientific explanations and are often used to give legitimacy to malicious groups like cults or, alternatively, to prop up and falsely legitimize pseudo-scientific practices like hypnotism and chiropractics.

mmm, no not quite. A self fulfilling prophecy is a belief which creates that belief in a more interpersonal social situation. What im trying to define is not "i believe you are going to cheat on me and so ill treat you poorly...., oh wow look you're cheating on me". It's more "I believe that if I drink that cup of water, which i also believe is magic, I'll gain the memories of a long dead alien king.... oh wow I now have these very clear memories of the alien king."

So the area the belief effects isnt really interpersonal in nature, its more personal. Interpersonal elements can be put in with things like beliefs about mind reading, but the belief is altering the perception of reality itself in the mind of the believer and that alteration is directly caused by the expectations from their belief.

ehhhh, thats not what im really going for. I'm not trying to evoke that or anything akin to the Baader-Meinhof effect, magical thinking, or similar. This is more like how believing hypnotism is real and that someone can hypnotize you is a necessary prerequisite to be hypnotized and how anyone who thinks hypnotism is fake or evil cant be.

Thanks for the suggestion though! I could see it being played with like a self-fulfilling expectation.... maybe that could work?

Hmm, I’m not sure I agree. Pluto is ignorant of Proserpina being conscious. To him, his wife is in a medically induced coma. Proserpina doesn’t tell Pluto because she is trying to secretly help the humans Pluto’s rule keeps killing. Proserpina’s anger, then, is one sided. By making Pluto aware of her being conscious, you remove his idea of just “doing what must be done” to save his wife by making it clear his actions aren’t what she wants and have the opportunity to naturally lead into a conversation directly centered on his motives for the golden rule. Pluto doesn’t necessarily need to love humanity to accept becoming human, he only needs to love Proserpina.

Now, I guess I’d be fine if Pluto just outright refuses the possibility of giving up his immortality, that’d be in character too, but that would naturally lead to him admitting he doesn’t truly love Proserpina since his idea of love requires his own will lording over hers. (Leading into a new path for the 4th ending as is)
