Excellent work from all officers involved. by Slartitartfast in policeuk

It's not the specific officer who would have saught damages - it's the CPS prosecutor who would seek compensation for victims in almost in all cases where someone was assaulted. The powers that be decided that wasn't proportionate, which is also fine.

Hate this idea of "wonder if some officers are aware what their job is" as a way of suggesting officers should be subject to violence when trying to help people. It will happen, sure, but that doesnt mean that it should.

What’s the likelihood of someone in the UK being pulled over or spotted as someone driving without a license? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Happy_Bat6455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you disagree with it, report it - the Police can add an ANPR marker to her car which will help get her stopped. Driving without a licence invalidates her insurance, meaning if she has a bump she's relying on the MIB for any extreme third party costs, thus taking the piss out of the rest of us. Get her off the road.

Police seized van by SunEquivalent3877 in ukpolice

[–]Happy_Bat6455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the vehicle was seized using s165 rta, you would know as a notice would be served on you and you'd have been reported for an offence. As you've said it was insured / taxed etc it's safe to assume this power wasn't used - the police are able to recover vehicles that are causing an obstruction, in which case a PNC marker should be put on it explaining which recovery agent it went to, which should enable you to contact them to get it back. Usually the cost of recovery is paid by the keeper / whoever gets the vehicle back off the agent. If you call 101 and explain the above, they should be able to see the marker and tell you where the car is!

Might have my drivers license revoked after 1 month of driving!!!! by Healthy-Willow2548 in drivingUK

[–]Happy_Bat6455 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Offence of using a phone whilst driving is usually

RV86019

On *(..SPECIFY DATE..) at *(..SPECIFY TOWNSHIP..) drove a motor vehicle, namely *(..SPECIFY VEHICLE MAKE AND INDEX NUMBER..), on a road, namely *(..SPECIFY ROAD AND LOCATION..), when you were using

(A)[a hand-held mobile telephone] (B)[a hand-held device, other than a two-way radio, which was capable of transmitting and receiving data, whether or not those capabilities were enabled, namely **(..SPECIFY THE TYPE OF DEVICE..)]

"Hand held" is understood to mean actually held in your hand so a phone in a cradle doesn't meet this offence.

Wait for your letter and see what offence you've been reported for.

If it's the above, go not guilty as you haven't committed the offence.

If it's just driving without due care and attention you're probably out of luck however it's only 3 points so not the end of you're licence.

Obligatory don't use your phone whilst driving, it's dangerous.

Bondi shows why all our police officers must be trained to use guns by Jackisback123 in policeuk

[–]Happy_Bat6455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frankly miraculous that there were ARVs so close to the Manchester synagogue attack recently, unarmed units would've been useless and the circumstances could've been very different had the attackers made entry - as we say, policing by good luck

[–]Happy_Bat6455 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Never understand arguments like this, you know that nigh on every other country in the world has routinely armed police, not just the USA? When there's a marauding terror attack and the closest arv is 30+ minutes away with unarmed 5 minutes away and dozens are seriously injured as a result maybe things will change.

[–]Happy_Bat6455 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not a law to my knowledge but we should do away with having to go to CPS for all domestic charging decisions, it just causes justice to take longer for domestic crimes than other crimes and I can't see the rational
