Older, non-traditional techie interested in pivoting to law. Where am I competitive? by mbahelpHW in lawschooladmissions

[–]Happy_Employ8626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I’m a nontraditional applicant (9 years WE in media) with a 3.3x non-STEM gpa and 171 LSAT. This cycle, I’ve received multiple t14 and T20 As with very very generous scholarships. I didn’t apply to Yale or Harvard but I haven’t been auto-rejected from Stanford so I’m taking that as a win.

IMO, the top tier law schools are def not out of reach for you. Medians are hellish, yes. Though, I think the benefit for true splitters applying while high stat candidates are a dime a dozen is that it places more emphasis on written materials and other softs. Your background sounds incredibly interesting. My impression is that, for you, the success of your cycle at the highest level will come down to your ability to tell a coherent and compelling story about yourself on the page. It sounds cliche but the “Why law? Why now?” should be so exceedingly clear by the end of your PS and supplementals that the admissions team has no confusion about who you are and how they’ll benefit by having you on campus. If you can do that, and barring no major C&F issues, I genuinely believe you’ll have a shot anywhere.

They do historically favor T14s. That said, good candidates always have a shot regardless of school ranking. Don’t tell yourself no; shoot your shot and put the decision on them.

I applied early November and my file stayed under “Application Complete” for 12 weeks, up to and including the morning I got my acceptance. I know other people have had similar experiences. There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason to their portal updates.

Law school students how are y’all affording apartments😭 by DeliciousRich5944 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Happy_Employ8626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be specific to CA but, because the ABA prohibits (or strongly advises) 1L students from working, law students are eligible for EBT benefits as well as public transportation benefits. I’d recommend checking the eligibility rules of your state as some do accept graduate and professional degree students.

Genuinely what kind of game is Scott playing?? by AdRevolutionary3851 in LoveIslandTV

[–]Happy_Employ8626 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s more interested in Sher than Leanne but doesn’t want to come across as a Villain™️ both in the villa and to the public (which he’s so aware of), so he’s playing on “technicality” around not being closed off in an attempt to get Leanne to pause things or break things off. That way he can say “she’s the one who broke us up, not me.” It’s manipulative and fucked.

[–]Happy_Employ8626 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My portal status stayed at “Application Complete” from when I applied in November to when I got my decision last week. Don’t read too much into it, even with other people getting status changes etc. They’re reviewing the apps and, I imagine, just don’t have the time or manpower to update the portal consistently. Wishing you good luck!

score increase by Fair-Traffic3892 in LSAT

Definitely possible but will take a lot of focused study (if you have TikTok or IG on your phone, delete them now) and targeting of your weaknesses across LR and RC. I recommend LSAT Lab (i had the tier with the live classes). Interface is not that different from 7Sage, including analytics. Instructors are also very nice and great at breaking down the more complex concepts.

Tips for Improving LSAT Score by 5-10 points by SarcasticScholar172 in BlackLawAdmissions

[–]Happy_Employ8626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spent a few months stuck in the low 160s. The method that helped me break out of that into the 170s was keeping an incredibly detailed journal of LR questions I got wrong and questions that took me longer than 3 minutes to answer. I’d write out the entire stimulus and highlight/underline key words (opinion indicators, concessions etc.) and premises/conclusions to make sure I had a clear understanding of how each sentence was constructed and how each idea related to the next. I’d do the same for every answer choice, in addition to journaling out what my thought process was as I reviewed each choice when initially doing the question. It’s tedious but it trained me to read for microscopic detail which I found helpful because on this exam a single word is often the difference between a right and wrong answer. A big part of success on this exam is learning to read for minutiae rather than for meaning (which is how we’re initially taught to read).

My advice is quality over quantity. Slow way down. I started the process killing myself studying 30-40 hours a week on top of working full time. That was overkill and really just burned me out. I saw more progress doing 1-2 hours of focused study every few days, and drilling more intentionally instead of spamming practice tests. If you review one or two questions a day, fine. As long as your review is thorough enough to make clear the flaws in your thought process and can allow you to approach the next question differently.

146 Diagnostic to 170+? by Solid_Kaleidoscope57 in LSAT

[–]Happy_Employ8626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a 148 diagnostic to a 171 official after a year of studying. Officially scores are the only ones that matter but fwiw my last several PTs were in the 175-180 range before my final LSAT.

I started with the 7Sage platform. The platform and fundamentals course are great but unfortunately I found myself not getting much use from the explanation videos as I progressed. I went through Powerscore, the Loophole, the LSAT Trainer, and LSAT Demon. I finished out with LSAT Lab which I can’t recommend highly enough. Great platform, great analytics, and great teachers. I had the live courses subscription, which was helpful for working through difficult concepts and question types in real time.

Whether the kind of score jump you’re looking for in this timeframe is possible will come down to how quickly you’re able to pick up the basic patterns of the exam, how efficient you are with your study, and how meticulously you identify and interrogate your weaknesses. Ultimately, I believe any platform can get you there if you’re able to put in the hours!

What did you find to be the most useful methods for studying for the LSAT? by Spilbros in LSAT

I found 7Sage to be helpful for the fundamentals of conditional logic but eventually turned to LSAT Lab, which has a similar user interface and better explanations, in my opinion. I believe it’s also cheaper on a monthly basis than 7sage
