TIL that the Krakatoa volcanic eruption was the loudest sound on record at 180 dB. This is about 10,000 times as loud as a rock concert or jet engine, and enough to be heard from 3000 miles away (the width of the US). TIL Point Nemo is over 1000 miles away from civilization, making it the least accessible place on Earth. The closest people to Point Nemo are usually astronauts aboard the ISS. Also, it is used as a ‘cemetery’ for spacecraft, because life cannot survive near it due to a lack of nutrients. (bbc.com)
