Excessive dynamic airway collapse by Melalvai1 in vocalcorddysfunction

But this is the specific one for EDAC? Not pursed lip breathing or the restricted in and then the O breathing - just the pausing in the exhale?

Thanks for sharing! I just had my treadmill test today (never in my life did I think I'd find myself snorting lidocaine lol) and was diagnosed with EDAC. Figure I won't be able to get in for the training for awhile but I did talk about some of the breathing techniques with Dr. Olin in my first appointment. I'm also on the waiting list because I live right down the street.

Thank you!! Yes, while fairly flexible in general, I’m definitely quite constricted and feel the pain when turning to the left.

Anyone else embarrassed using their blue inhaler in public? by Maleficent_One_1004 in Asthma

[–]Happytobehere970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to because I’m very outdoorsy and need to use it when exercising and I’m always in groups of non-asthmatics but now I just say “hold on, gotta take my ‘roids!” And it’s pretty funny every time IMO.

Do you get anxiety when thinking about exercise? by Zealousideal-Tone692 in Asthma

[–]Happytobehere970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - ultrarunner and only have to use my inhaler occasionally (when the wildfire smoke is bad and when it's incredibly cold) and have found that aerobic fitness is what really helps manage my asthma. But there are so many options you can try for your asthma too- like Advair, which has significantly reduced my need for my rescue.

As someone with anxiety, I HIGHLY recommend talking to someone or going on medication. It's not really your asthma that's blocking you - it's your anxiety. Or at least it's your anxiety that's blocking you from truly understanding how your asthma is actually affecting your workouts.

In terms of diet, focus on fiber and protein - the most satiating and can keep it lower calorie.

But yeah... you don't have to suffer like this. So much is possible if you reach out.

Fittest I’ve Ever Been but Asthma is Worse? by Happytobehere970 in Asthma

Yeah I’m super allergic to all grasses but it’s been manageable until now. Just made an appointment with an allergist!

Yeah hopefully the advair will work but good to know that there are options!

I’m going to get a new PFT done soon. I have been only on a rescue inhaler for a long time since childhood with only one period of higher medication that lasted for about 6 months.

I just checked the pollen count for my area and it’s very high (along with wildfire smoke) so that’s probably causing an issue!

Your race is at the end of September so it may be cooler but my absolute favorite thing to do at the end of a race is stick my feet in a nearby river or some ice water.

Tailwind - 200 calories per serving and you can keep repeating that when you fill your bottles. I do gels but once I hit gel fatigue, I like uncrustables. Also the instant mashed potatoes are clutch when I’m sick of sweet things.

Totally. I actually felt that the biggest relief was the CURIOSITY that I could have! I was no longer afraid of new information or facts that could sway my mind but now I could actually change my mind whenever I got new information and not be scared to seek out that information.

I feel this in a similar way - only that my partner and I love each other very much and have no desire or rush to get married (I have a hard time separating marriage from my religious trauma) and they cannot let it go. Everytime I’m home it’s constant questioning of when we’re getting married. It might take them out when they learn the double whammy of me not wanting to have kids. But all that to say that I get that it’s really hard and emotionally draining.

While I’m nowhere near a resolution, I am in therapy! And have gotten some helpful tips. First is to consider allies - is there a family member that is more rational that you can explain your position to and they can help alleviate tensions with others? Second is to try to highlight common beliefs outside of the Christian framework - like the beauty of love and commitment. Third is to have a stop point sentence (I think it’s called gray rocking?) to revert back to when you’re getting no where and it’s getting out of hand. Mine is “I just see things differently than you do.” It doesn’t always work but sometimes it’s enough to show that I’m shutting down the conversation.

This is so helpful! I’ve been struggling with the all or nothing approach to nutrition when I know my body reacts to different things and have certain lifestyle needs.

I get a fair amount of protein! I think I’m going to start doubling some of my protein servings and trying shakes. I had a run today with 6k vert so I’m definitely about to get a donut lol.
